Ted's Thots: October 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 18, 2006. I just got back from a very sad funeral. But it wasn’t because so many people were crying. This guy was 59, retired from Qwest 2 years ago, an introvert and an avid bicyclist. He helped me out a bunch back when I did the Lung 150. Now, today, only about 60 people attended his funeral, and only a few folks that came were from Qwest. Posted by Ted at 1:57 PM. Arvada, CO, United States. View my complete profile. Ted's Thots: June 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 14, 2006. The problem of suffering. Recently, a friend of mine has been very discouraged by the decline in health of her mother, who has MS. She finds the goodness of God difficult to trust as she watches her mother lose her memory, and no longer be able to recognize her own daughter. Posted by Ted at 1:45 PM. Arvada, CO, United States. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) at Resonance Counseling: see http:/ www.tedmathis.net/. I specialize in couple's counseling and in...

Ted's Thots: January 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 25, 2006. Meanwhile I still have a paper to do (see my January 8th entry) this weekend. I’ll post it when I’m done. As much as I’d like to think that I’ve recovered from many of my trauma-based lies, I find that my body refuses to believe that. Somehow, my schedule over the last few weeks has stirred me up enough to alter my BP and affect my general sense of well-being. I’m still working on getting back to my usual affect. Posted by Ted at 9:29 AM. Monday, January 09, 2006. I would esp...

Ted's Thots: December 2005
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 14, 2005. Not sick, just discouraged. I’ve been studying for my final (which I take tonight) and stumbled across some more good thoughts from Alfred Adler. He seemed to think that Freud’s view that people were sick (neurotic, disturbed) was incorrect. Adler believed that people were merely discouraged and needed. As "the willingness to move forward even when fearful.". By the way, be sure to read Jen and my wife today excellent stuff! Posted by Ted at 3:46 PM. What if you're wrong?

Ted's Thots: November 2005
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 29, 2005. This just in from Dmitri Bilgere:. At the last Inner King Training, Tom Daly and I gave a talk about a basic paradox in life that causes people a *lot* of trouble. It's the paradox of living life "uphill" or living life "downhill." Understanding this idea has made my life a LOT easier. Let me explain by giving you a few examples of it. See if any of these seem familiar to you:. On the one hand, you want to ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS in life. That's living "uphill.". Well, to tell the ...

Ted's Thots: March 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 25, 2006. This bit of savvy wisdom is from the book From Age-ing to Sage-ing. A book that my friend Mel Claytor has been reading:. When I refuse to forgive someone who has wronged me, I mobilize my own inner criminal justice system to punish the offender. As judge and jury, I sentence the person to a long prison term without parole and incarcerate him in a prison that I construct from the bricks and mortar of a hardened heart. The issue of forgiveness has another dimension that we are nor...

Ted's Thots: February 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 26, 2006. Dawn asks: "Got any suggestions for people like me, who tend to get really drowsy or fall asleep? The book says that one needs to sit comfortably while praying, but "not so comfortable that we encourage sleep but comfortable enough to avoid thinking about the discomfort of our bodies during the time of prayer." It goes on to say:. Get comfy and begin my time of centering prayer. Phyllis says that if you fall asleep, don’t worry about it. Do what you can to pick a time and p...

Ted's Thots: September 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 01, 2006. Finances, contentment, and dependency. Greg made some interesting comments today that I want to pick up on here. Greg hit it right on the head in his post. It was the whole area of contentment. The line of thinking goes something like: Maybe I’m missing out on something. Maybe this fragile dependent relationship with God isn’t what I want. I want to be free to make my own choices, run my own life, and go my own way. This, folks, is the nature of sin. Posted by Ted at 3:08 PM.

Ted's Thots: August 2006
http://teds-thots.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Now that I’ve finished my summer course in Theology, and I’m beginning my fall spiritual formation class, it’s time to get back to making some entries here. My learning contract for my class this fall is about my tendency towards perfectionism. I sure hope I do it right ;). Seriously though, here are some questions I’d love your feedback on:. 1) How has perfectionism served you? 2) What are the negative consequences you experience in your life by trying to be perfect?
