Tool, or trouble? Facial recognition might be driving some sources away from the news

Focusing on the future of digital journalism. Tool, or trouble? Facial recognition might be driving some sources away from the news. January 17, 2012. At first, Brittany Cantarella had no idea the man she accidentally swiped with her Chevrolet was named Lord Jesus Christ. But within two days, the minor traffic incident had gone viral. 8221; a man in Stop & Shop yelled. 8220;I wanted to hide, I wanted to run, I wanted to go far away,” Cantarella said. Is a renowned photojournalist who has spent the past 3...

Fujifilm’s leather case for the x10 camera | in a glass eye
https://mattvalentinephotography.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/fujifilms-leather-case-for-the-x10-camera
In a glass eye. Fujifilm’s leather case for the x10 camera. My wife gave me this handsome case for my new Fujifilm x10 camera. The case is fitted to hold the camera with the lens retracted and lens cap on. It’s nicely constructed and compliments the retro styling of the camera. My grandfather had a variety of Leica, Exacta and Contax 35mm cameras from the 1940s and 50s with similar cases. Bottom line: this case, like the Fuji x10, is attractive, but not meant for serious professional use. Create a free w...
Fighting the Void: February 2011
http://fightingthevoid.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
To create something from nothing is a daily struggle- how do you fight the void? Monday, February 28, 2011. BUS 6 Photos/Video by the amazing Jason Cohn. Was the photographer who followed me and rode my P68 bus for awhile out to Braddock Hills. He got some great dramatic shots of me taking notes and looking really serious. I mean, really serious, like thinking deep existential thoughts, like " Why are there hardly any people on this bus at 5 pm? From Jason Cohn Productions. Labels: B.U.S. Theatre is a tr...

In a glass eye. Author Archive for Matt Valentine. Big sensor, tiny camera. I suspect that the reason the price is so low on these cameras is that they don’t have built-in WiFi, a feature available in most new compacts. Of course, you can wirelessly transfer photos with an Eye-Fi card, or you can use Nikon’s Wu-1B adapter, which will also allow wireless control of the camera from a smartphone or tablet. A photo of my new camera, photographed with my other new camera. The UT Austin campus at dusk. My wife...

Nighttime panoramas with the Fujifilm x10 camera | in a glass eye
https://mattvalentinephotography.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/nighttime-panoramas-with-the-fujifilm-x10-camera
In a glass eye. Nighttime panoramas with the Fujifilm x10 camera. Yesterday at dusk I was walking across the UT Austin campus and I decided to shoot a few sweep panorama photos with the Fuji x10. These were shot handheld at high ISO, but the results were nevertheless impressive from such a small camera. You tell me: are the “white orbs” here any worse than you would expect to see in any photo shot under these conditions with a compact camera? The UT Austin campus at dusk. Feed for this Entry. Within, Without
Buy the truth and do not sell it." - Proverbs 23:23. Monday, September 22, 2014. The Sandheap and Sin. Let us begin with a famous paradox (The Sorites’ Paradox). One has a heap of sand made up of 1,000,000 grains of sand. 1,000,000 grains of sand is a heap of sand. (Premise 1). A heap of sand minus one grain is still a heap. (Premise 2). What does this have to do with sin? Either one grain of sand constitutes a heap, or there is no such thing as a heap, or there is a specified number of grains which cons...
Within, Without | "Buy the truth and do not sell it." – Proverbs 23:23
Buy the truth and do not sell it. – Proverbs 23:23. 8220;Okay, this is it Abraham, you have to prove yourself. You’ve committed so many sins, made so many mistakes. Here is where I decide if I love GOD more than anything else. He is worthy Abraham, He is worthy. But my son, how can I sacrifice my son? I waited so long for a son…no…He promised that my offspring would be reckoned through him…so he has to live…right? Can’t think about that now.”. Is GOD taking my son because He is displeased? How can I expl...

Stop Asking People to Give Money To Your Church. May 18, 2017. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Some new church plant (or old church traditional church, or hipster-deep “worship experience”) doesn’t have enough money to pay the bills. So the pastor, or the elders, or the “stewardship committee” decides it’s high time to start preaching more about money. Will burn them out. Because institutions are built by resources, but a mission can only be advanced by people. Most of us know this intuitively.
