Seagate had really fumbled in their initial handling of the issue and so I intentionally waited until the dust had settled before deciding on my options. So after sorting through all the noise, the rants, etc. I came across this great thread. On the "data recovery" process. Long story short, I received my drive yesterday from i365 and it works great! I plan to see Wolverine anyway when Viks comes back so it brings the effective price of each Blu Ray to $8 each. I think $9.99 is my new target price for catalog Blu Rays. It was not new technology but it was one of the first production unit that rolled off the line. And of course it is not uncommon for early production units to have bugs.
