Marika in Malawi: Climb every mountain...gulp.
http://marikainmalawi.blogspot.com/2007/07/climb-every-mountaingulp.html
Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Climb every mountain.gulp. We had planned to set off early in the morning, but he was delayed because one of the tenants had stolen some things and run off. He was upset because this particular tenant had been a close friend, and he felt much betrayed by this, understandably so. So the minibus dropped us at the end of a dirt road with a sign posted: Livingstonia 15km. Before you actually get to Livingstonia there’s this amazing waterfall set back in the forest that drops ove...

Kyla in Malawi: Poem from Amos
http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007/08/poem-from-amos.html
Monday, August 20, 2007. When you came here. Stories you could hear. Are of the programmes. And of the people. Stories that brought joy. You nearly dropped a tear. That was in May. Long last you opened your way. Together we have done evaluation. Together we have crossed rivers. Together we have inhaled dust. Something we shan’t do together in August. Then the globe turned July. Your months stay counted three. You were as free. As a bird in a tree. This proved your unique. Soon you are going back to Canada.

Kyla in Malawi: April 2007
http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 29, 2007. The following are some questions I have been asked. Malawi is in south east Africa. It borders with Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia. Where in Malawi will you be? I will be working in a small town called Bwanje. It is hard to find on many maps (you wont find it on google maps). The closest city is Nitcheu, which is about 30km south west of Bwanje. Will you have electricity or running water? How will you communicate with people in your host community? Will it be really hot there?

Kyla in Malawi: June 2007
http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 23, 2007. Has found that development projects are much more successful when they include the participation of both men and women in the community. Gender inequality is major issue in rural Malawi. Often the women are over burdened with work, and are not involved in finical. Decisions. Harvest time is particularly bad, as the men get a relatively large amount of cash that is not always. Spent in the best interests of whole household. Money is wasted on beer, cigarettes. It is hard to say ho...

Kyla in Malawi: May 2007
http://ewbmalawi.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 26, 2007. Me and my sister Martha. She is the same age as me, and lives with the family to help with the daily chores and running the maize mill. We have a good time hanging, despite the fact that I do not speak much Chichewa and she does not speak much English. Sunset near my house. Girl in the window of a maize mill. A note on Communication. Communication here is very difficult. The nearest Internet. Is 50km from my house, and phone network is limited. I apologise. Previously Namachenja M...
