Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Live Visitor Tracking on your site. Do you run a website? If so, you are probably like me and are semi-obsessed with wondering if and how many people are visiting your site. There are plenty of free services that will track the number of hits you receive, where they come from, how long they stay on your site, what color shirt they were wearing, and various other metrics. I'm not going to compete with them. Here's the link: Live Visitor Tracker. Get my own counter!

Monday, March 9, 2009. Free Stock Market Simulation Game. I have always been thrilled by Stock Market Simulation Games. I love the idea of investing a virtual lump sum in a market based on real stock prices and watching your investment grow (or not). I've even gotten a few of the other teachers in the building in on the action, buying and selling stocks right alongside the students. I've created my own Stock Market Game written entirely in php. It pulls real stock prices (delayed 15 minutes) from Goo...

Sunday, September 28, 2008. Does your school use a homework site? I am painfully aware that I have not posted to this blog in quite some time. It isn't because I've lost interest in educational technology. In fact, quite the opposite is true. I've been. Consumed by several programs of my own. One of the programs involves an easier way to allow teachers to post homework and announcements to the school district's website. Does your school district require teachers to post homework assignments online?

Saturday, January 31, 2009. Wakeup Call for Online Service Users. Is down. If that means nothing to you, please keep reading. In an average day, it is not unusual for me to:. Email documents, presentations, project files, etc. to myself in Gmail so I have access to them at home and work. Upload large files to my Skydrive account so I can download them from another location or share them with others. Upload pictures to Picasa to keep and share with others. Upload videos to Youtube. Friday, June 27, 2008. Another tech goal I can cross off of my list for 2008. I read about a site called Mologogo. Fast forward many months and many hours learning php code later, I am singing a different tune. I finally figured out how to set up the Boost phone to transmit to my own script, when then loads the coordinates into a Microsoft Live Map. The results are both stunning and creepy. Now you can track me as if you were in a low-flying hot air balloon. Click here for the full size page.

Thursday, November 29, 2007. Posted by Mr. Kries. Links to this post. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. More thoughts on Amazon Kindle. It seems everywhere I went today, Amazon's Kindle was calling my name. From the Newsweek magazine in the school library to half a dozen different online articles lurking in the RSS feeds above my Gmail account, I couldn't keep the Kindle out of my mind. I still can't help but think that this could really be a paradigm changing device. Posted by Mr. Kries. Links to this post.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Unfortunately, every time I have tried to follow tutorials online to create a high score table, it never seems to work for one reason or another. I even went as far as to buy a commercial Flash component to plug into my games (it turned out to be a company in Germany that does not seem to exist, so that one didn't work out either). Give it a try at this link: Mental Telepathy Assessment Test. Try that one here: www.savethehatch.com. The next step will be to begin creating new c...

Thursday, October 30, 2008. Bringing Tech to the Mock Election. 4 years ago I was a new teacher looking to make my mark in a new school. Being that it was an election year, a school-wide Mock Election seemed to fit the bill. We built a double stall voting booth and invited the entire school population (over 400 students K-8) to come and choose between George Bush and John Kerry. The day was quite a success. This year's Mock Election featured the following upgrades:. Live Updates via the Web:. Overall, th...

Wednesday, December 5, 2007. Need to send a large file? Senduit.com can help. There are many times when it is necessary to send large files online. Whether the file in question is a movie file, a zip file, a program, or something else, it is often inconvenient to send it via email. Some email services put limits on attachment sizes as well as the amount of storage space you are given. The site allows you to upload any file under 100 MB to their server. The process is simple:. It's really that easy. Is so...

Monday, November 24, 2008. New Flash Review Game! After great success with the online Flash Jeopardy game. There is now a new member of the Flash Review family! It's amazing what you can do with Flash, php, and 5 hours to kill waiting for parent-teacher conferences to start. The newest Flash review game is called Flash Board Game. The game itself plays pretty much like any standard board game:. The first team to reach the end wins the game. As always, I look forward to hearing from anyone who uses this g...
