Coming of Age: My "I Love Lucy" Moment. Or: How I got introduced to all of my neighbors and why they think the American living in their building is a retard

http://jaydchen.blogspot.com/2007/06/my-i-love-lucy-moment-or-how-i-got.html

My "I Love Lucy" Moment. Or: How I got introduced to all of my neighbors and why they think the American living in their building is a retard. I had an “I Love Lucy” moment today. You know those moments, don’t you? I’m lucky enough to live in the city in an apartment with a washing machine. However, this presents its own complications, as I discovered today. Easy enough to fix, right? 8220;Are the Chinese ones bad? 8221; I ask her in Russian. I turn the new handle. It doesn’t move. The valve gives a litt...

Coming of Age: August 2006

http://jaydchen.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

There’s always room for improvement…. One of the things I’ve been proud of as of late has been my development in the Russian language – it took over a year, but only recently have I felt comfortable enough in my abilities to not have to lug around a Russian-english dictionary everywhere I go. Coming of Age: May 2007

http://jaydchen.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Thoughts on the website. I think it's important to note that my website isn't meant to document the experience of local people here in this country. Rather, it's meant to document the experiences that I, as a Peace Corps Volunteer, personally experience day-by-day. I love Kazakhstan through and through. This isn't to say that there aren't faults or things I don't like, but no country is perfect, is it? Still, the experience has been so thoroughly rewarding and lovely that I've I decided to stay a third y...

Coming of Age: May 2008

http://jaydchen.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Here's a small clip of a news report on me and some other volunteers in the area. For arrogance's sake (and the trouble with my bandwidth) I'm only uploading half of the video. The half with me. More to come. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The views expressed in this blog are purely that of Jay Chen and his experiences here in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. Coming of Age

http://jaydchen.blogspot.com/2007/08/ive-been-getting-lot-of-emails-lately.html

I've been getting a lot of emails lately regarding on what to bring to KZ and for advice for the 19s. I've included this here for the K-19s arriving soon. If I get anymore questions I'll be sure to add more. 1 How is life and work in KZ? What advice can you provide to help me adapt to KZ? What advice can you give me to successfully complete my service? I'll give you a few pieces of advice. If you have a boyfriend/girlfriend in the states right now, it might be a good idea to break up. Lots of volunteers ...

Let That Be Enough

Let That Be Enough. The story of one stumbling about on the path of sanctification. Monday, September 22, 2014. I hear You calling out my name, Lord. But I can't look You in the eye. So I just stay away. I tried and tasted what was forbidden. And it filled me with delight. But now I'm still hungry on the inside. When these three set out to ruin together, it is a terrible season. So what do we set to do amidst the amalgamation of disdain and despair we are often faced with? How do we choose to respond?

Good Enough to Win? February 19, 2017. Read this last week in the The Hard Things About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers. I’ve heard about this book for a while, read a lot of other books by people close to Ben Horowitz. But for some reason never felt moved to read this one. Thinking about it – it was probably because on the surface his story seemed to be an easy one. Got hired at Netscape. Great (Best) friends with Marc Andreessen.
