Jay Mitchell's Radio Rants: Fourth Estate Fire Sale
http://jaymitchellsradiorants.blogspot.com/2010/06/fourth-estate-fire-sale.html
Thursday, June 10, 2010. Fourth Estate Fire Sale. Back around the time our newsletter. Began, I consulted a station whose owner would gleefully frame and hang on his office walls the last editions of failed newspapers. He had maybe four or five of them. We all thought it was great fun to find weakness in a strong industry, in a formidable competitor. If that owner were around today, his walls would be, well, wall to wall with framed failures. And it is no longer great fun. But in the wake of the. It̵...

We all know that the reality is just the opposite: we owe Bob a great debt for the wisdom he shares with us periodically in this periodical. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Three faces have i. Thursday, August 5, 2010. The Gift that Keeps on Giving. A few days ago I received a nice gift from my friends Stuart Sharpe and Shayna Sharpe at Regional Reps. Now before you conclude that devoting a blog post to somebody giving me a promotional mug is a waste of precious Internet resources, let me explain. (By the way, it is predicted that the Internet will be swallowed by the sun in a mere 2 million years. Consider yourself warned.). Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Three faces have i.

Jay Mitchell's Blog: Sports Central
http://jay-mitchell.blogspot.com/2010/06/sports-central.html
Friday, June 18, 2010. I don't know much about sports, but evidently something significant happened this week involving something called the Lakers. As nearly as I can figure, the Lakers consist of a man named Phil Jackson and someone named Kobe. There are two people who show up to watch the Lakers do whatever they do—Spike Lee and Jack Nicholson. The rest of us watch Spike Lee and Jack Nicholson watching the Lakers. Posted by Jay Mitchell. Jay Mitchell's Blog: February 2010
http://jay-mitchell.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 15, 2010. The label on something I picked up the other day said …. TRADER JOE’S CHICKEN SALAD. 48% FEWER CALORIES, 90% LESS FAT. THAN TRADER JOE’S CHICKEN SALAD. I was understandably curious about a foodstuff that claims to have 48% fewer calories and 90% less fat than itself. So I opened the package, whereupon it went into an infinite feedback loop and sucked all the calories and fat out of everything in the kitchen. I now weigh 42 pounds. I wonder if Kirstie Alley knows about this.

Jay Mitchell's Blog: May 2011
http://jay-mitchell.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 21, 2011. I just realized that the lyrics to Cake’s “Short Skirt Long Jacket” are actually pretty good poetry:. I want a girl with a mind like a diamond. I want a girl who knows what's best. I want a girl with shoes that cut. And eyes that burn like cigarettes. I want a girl with the right allocations. Who's fast and thorough. And sharp as a tack. She's playing with her jewelry. She's putting up her hair. She's touring the facility. And picking up slack. I want a girl who gets up early.

Jay Mitchell's Blog: Passing Culture
http://jay-mitchell.blogspot.com/2010/06/passing-culture.html
Friday, June 18, 2010. I just got the latest brochure from what passes for culture in Orange County, the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. And things have definitely taken a turn for the worse. The upcoming season comprises a combination of acts that appeal to old people, acts you'd expect to find in dinky, dingy lounges in downtown Las Vegas, and acts for really. To wit: They have a bunch of An Evening With… events, featuring burn-outs from the Sixties and Seventies, and then. Three faces of jay.

Jay Mitchell's Blog: April 2010
http://jay-mitchell.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 3, 2010. A Very Different Night, Indeed. I was doing some research on Easter the other day, because saying Happy Easter seemed kind of odd. The guy was crucified, after all, so saying “Happy Easter” is kind of like saying Happy Daniel Pearl Day three days after—well, never mind. As it turns out, the most scholarly research on the subject of Passover is at chabad.org. Manischewitz is too much Manischewitz.). I have pictorial evidence that Mr. Matzah exists. He’s obviously ano...I have deci...
