These porcelain cups are cast from ceramics made by J.B. Blunk between 1950 and 1990. The original cups were made from clay dug from the hills surrounding the artist’s home and studio in Inverness, California. Blunk Cups are made by hand using slip casting techniques and the muted finish emphasizes the form and texture of Blunk’s originals. Produced by Mariah Nielson. Work and Home: A Visit with J.B. Blunk. My way of working, the core of all my sculpture, is a theme, the soul of the piece. Sometimes it is evoked by the material, sometimes it is an idea or concept in my own mind. It is always resent, regardless of the material, size or scale of what will be the finished piece. On occasions, when I work with found objects, the object itself, evokes a theme. In these cases, I do very little to change it. One could say the theme is recognized.

Thursday, August 11, 2011. This bronze sculpture is by one of J.B. Blunk's sons. On the way back from our vacation in Oregon this July, my boyfriend Jesse and I stopped at his parents' home in Pt. Reyes Station. Ever since I first started dating Jesse in 2010 I had heard about this artist's residency in nearby Inverness, former home to the artist J.B. Blunk.
