The Colonel's Forum: May 2014
http://jbforum.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 19, 2014. Those pesky poor people. Grabbed my attention last week. Among other things, it provides a historical perspective on a major topic in American politics today - rich versus poor, makers versus takers, the notion that all poor people (or a full 47% of the country, according to Romney) are freeloaders. Here's another spin. They just won two presidential elections by appealing to. the middle class who's getting screwed by. the 1% who fund the PACs that fund the GOP. About the staggering...
The Colonel's Forum: The war on common sense
http://jbforum.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-war-on-common-sense.html
Friday, March 20, 2015. The war on common sense. Allows him to divert attention from the facts surrounding the issue, namely:. Presidents don't control energy markets. There are actually 9,000 more coal miners working in the US today than the day Obama took office, they're just not working in Kentucky. Coal has been a dying industry in Kentucky for all 30 years that Mitch has been in office, so apparently the "war on coal" started with Reagan. Coal fired power plants actually do pollute the air. Is that ...

The Colonel's Forum: Is Mitch Really Helping Kentucky?
http://jbforum.blogspot.com/2014/11/is-mitch-really-helping-kentucky.html
Sunday, November 09, 2014. Is Mitch Really Helping Kentucky? Now that McConnell will be serving 36 years in the Senate, and the coming 6 as majority leader, I think it's reasonable to expect that he delivers the goods for Kentucky. I mean, a Senators #1 job is to serve his state, right? Can we at least agree on that? And the Commonwealth will be a distant 3rd if it's on his list at all. I was wrong once though, and it could feasibly happen again. How will we know? Turnabout is fair play? They want it bot...
The Colonel's Forum: September 2013
http://jbforum.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 01, 2013. Oh, sweet irony. The US response to the situation in Syria is amusing to me. To be clear, I think that what happened is a very serious situation, and not something that should be taken lightly. What I'm saying is that the manner in which the US is responding (or, at the moment, not responding) is laughable. The same goes for the Brits. I mean seriously, when was the last time the FRENCH. So why is the US response amusing? Because only the 2013 Congress could turn this into a p...

Work the Plan: Typical Trip
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2008/04/typical-trip.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Saturday, April 12, 2008. These trips are starting to get to be a bit routine. I have a bit of a pattern that I go through - I don't know if it is all the OCD working itself out or simply the comfort of going with what works. Fear 1: I will forget something. This is completely unfounded since as long as I have the three essentials, there really is no problem (passport, credit card, unbacked up laptop with all of my work). The packing starts about two...
Work the Plan: October 2007
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Wednesday, October 03, 2007. Stupid Yummy Decadent Apple Caramel Cheesecake. Well, contrary to the implication of the title, I won out of about a dozen entries. Or at least I tied for first. We both had 36 points and from what I understand, I won presentation and Shauna won for taste. Not that it was rigged, but Shauna is Co-Chair for the Campaign and I am in charge of canvassers. Sometimes I just feel so alone. Tuesday, October 02, 2007. Flickr Page...

Work the Plan: April 2008
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Sunday, April 13, 2008. We got a suite this time as that gives us a kitchen, two bedrooms, living room and bath. The odd part is that on Friday we finalized our training plan for our country rollouts - which led to the fact that this is my last trip to Geneva. That is kind of bittersweet. I am happy for it to be over, but I am going to miss a few good friends I have made. It feels a bit rushed. Ah, well - back to work. Saturday, April 12, 2008. Fear ...
Work the Plan: Geneva Again
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2008/05/geneva-again.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Sunday, May 25, 2008. I started the morning with the light version of the British breakfast. It was only one piece of bacon, one sausage, one tomato, one poached egg, 4 pieces of toast with homemade jam, one bowl of fruit salad, one glass of orange juice, and finally one pot of tea. The full version was double that, and again I wonder about the comments about American portions. I was then off to Heathrow Terminal 5 which is very very nice. I had ...
Work the Plan: Parma -- trust the TomTom
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2007/12/parma-trust-tomtom.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Tuesday, December 04, 2007. Parma - trust the TomTom. Monday - we did get a bit of a late start as we had to get 75% of our luggage from the airport. We took the five hour drive through France/Italy/Mont Blanc tunnel to get to Parma. We did get stopped at the Italian border for papers for about 1/2 hour, but didn't even get our passports stamped. Not a bad start. Nicole has agreed to stay. Responce from my side. Work the Plan: British Checklist
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2008/05/british-checklist.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Monday, May 19, 2008. I arrived in the very green and very beautiful Henley on the Thames. This is English countryside at the finest. So, off I go to be British. I sat at the table patiently, which is a bit troublesome when you are traveling alone as I feel like I am a stalker in training. You just can't help but watch people and also feel like they are watching you. The waiter finally notices me and let's me know that you order at the bar...I wan...
Work the Plan: Autobahn Driving
http://hikerchef.blogspot.com/2008/05/autobahn-driving.html
Short entries about planning life's little adventures. Sunday, May 25, 2008. Saturday we slept in. I read and worked a bit - and then Coby came to pick me up to head to Frankfurt. He got kicked out of his room before he could finish our production updates - so we had to get him an internet connection. Hotel no connection (I could, he could not). Standing outside the office trying to get wireless - no joy. Hotel next door (I could, he could not). Paying a big fee two hours later. finally.

Thursday, July 20, 2017. Trump, in his own words. Excerpt of an interview. Any Before coming over, Bob and I have had lots of chats. And we were thinking about this, that you are running for the nomination in the Republican Party. Which is the party of Lincoln and the party of Nixon. . . . And so we have this party that you are running to be the nominee in, and it’s got two heritages. Lincoln and Nixon. That’s true. That’s true. And why did Lincoln succeed? Thought about that at all? And he broke the law.
