Best Birds Thursday #8. April 3, 2014. This was a great birding week for me! The weather was perfect, the sun was shining. and the birds were out! I saw a total of 38 species, including seven new "lifers" and the first hummingbirds of the Spring season! The full list at the end of this post, but for now. on to the photos! April 29, 2015. A couple of weekends again, I went to the city of Charleston, South Carolina as part of an entourage of bridesmaids for a bachelorette retreat on Folly Beach. Aside from amazing fried oysters at the Folly Beach Crab Shack, trying She Crab soup. For the first time, visting the Firefly Vodka distillery. And touring America's only tea farm. I spend a small amount of time seeing what birds I could see during migration. In a 3 hours time period one day. I logged 28 species.

Best Birds Thursday #11. April 24, 2014. The Summer Tanager ( Piranga rubra). Is still hanging around the house here in New Braunfels, Texas. competing with the Cardinals for the loudest song. The Northern Mockingbird ( Mimus polyglottos. Definitely wins the award for having the most swag in his step! He hunts for bugs, and then proudly sits out on our poolside recliner waiting for everyone to see what he caught. Only once everyone has seen. will he fly into the Jasmine bush to feed the babies.

All of these were taken at my house, or at my office in New Braunfels, Texas. except for the last two photos which were from Bay City, Texas. A hungry Loggerhead Shrike. with a scorpion! Birding in Bryant Park NYC. April 14, 2015. Hello from the road! I'm currently traveling on a small vacation to both New York City (my second home), and Charleston. I'm fitting birding in when/where I can. First on the agenda, was to attend the kickoff morning birding tour in the joint Bryant Park-New York Audubon Society. Partnership with naturalist Gabriel Willow. He was energetic and alive right from the start which is always refreshing at 8am! Quite a fun dinosaur/kiwi/ancient looking thing!
