I can still work as a traveling ER nurse a couple months of the year, and Tom can continue design projects on the road, plus he’s got a small but steady income from some patents he holds. I love central Nevada more than most places but holy shit it gets pretty damn cold there about now. Being too cold to get out of bed just blows, though on-demand propane heat goes a long way towards making nice, as do hot springs. But there are hot springs elsewhere, in warmer weather, and thus we've pointed Betty south and headed towards death. That little sharp bit between miles 11 and 12 was.
