Chris's 1973 Volkswagen Thing Blog. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Thing's First Car Show. I didn't want a museum artifact, I wanted something fun that I could enjoy on nice summer days. I didn't know how people would react to it at a car show. Yawns? The rest was mostly questions like "Is this really a Volkswagen? And "What is this? It went much better than the left side, mainly because I knew what I was doing. The biggest problem was the top adjuster star nut (same one that was horribly frozen on the driver's side). The first car show of the season has come and gone, and the first "project" was completed - replacing the brushes in my generator. After I got Orville's new starter in and did some other work, it was clear that one of his problems was that the rust in the gas tank was clogging up the air filter, which would make the car hard to start. So, I decided to pull the gas tank and start from scratch.
