From The Middle Of My Mind. Good smells with a past). As I had followed that wagon, the smell of the fresh harvested load had interrupted my miserable thought. I began to think about harvesting peanuts when I was a boy, about boiling peanuts, about eating peanuts, and about working in peanuts on my uncle John Henry's farm. That earthy aroma had reminded me of some good people and some good experiences of another place and time. If there are, I will take a dozen.

It was peanut harvest time in our part of Georgia, and between Cordele and Hawkinsville, I got behind a loaded peanut wagon. Because I did not find a safe place to pass, I followed it for several miles. When the driver finally turned off the main road, I realized that I no longer felt frustrated and tired.
