치과마취과학은 ‘치과의사는 치아 치료만을 담당한다’라는 고정관념에서 진일보하여 치과의사, 의사, 그리고 마취전문 간호사들이 협력하여 다음과 같은 임상활동과 연구활동을 하는 학문입니다. 1 구강악안면외과 환자들을 위한 전신마취. 3 수면치과치료(진정법; sedation). 4 환자감시하 마취관리(MAC; monitored anesthesia care). 5 자가통증조절법(PCA; patient-controlled anesthesia)과 자가진정조절법(PCS; patient-controlled sedation). 1) 진통제나 진정제의 과량투여에 따라 발생하는 부작용을 최소화할 수 있습니다. 2) 환자 자신이 통증이나 진정을 조절할 수 있으므로 불안감이 적습니다. 3) 환자가 자신이 원하는 통증이나 진정의 수준을 맞출 수 있으므로 가장 효율적인 진통과 진정이 이루어집니다. 4) 부작용이 적고 환자의 빠른 회복이 가능합니다.

대한치과마취과학회가 창립된 후 15년 째에 접어들고 있습니다. 그간 전임 학회장님들과 임원들의 헌신적 노력과 회원 여러분의 열성적 참여덕분에 학회의 규모도 750여명의 회원이 참여 할 만큼 커 졌을 뿐 아니라 학회의 활동도 더욱 알차게 진행되고 있습니다. 그간 발행되어 온 대한치과마취과학회지가 2015년 부터는 한국연구재단 등재학술지로 선정되었을 뿐 아니라 Journal of Dental Ansthesia and Pain Medicine 으로 이름을 바꾸고 아시아치과마취과학회(FADAS)와 공동으로 영문으로 발간되기 시작하였습니다. 앞으로 더욱 발전하여 국제적으로 인정받는 학회지가 될 수 있도록 하여야겠습니다. 역대회장님과 임원님들의 노력 덕분으로 일본과 대만 등 아시아 뿐 아니라 국제적으로 치과마취과 분야의 교류가 확대되고 있습니다. 앞으로도 국제 학술행사에 적극 참여하고 교류하여 우리 실정에 맞는 앞선 제도를 받아들이도록 노력해야 겠습니다.
