Staring at the Wall: December 2009

http://jdurlauf.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 30, 2009. I moved to Bowling Green in May, but I had only moved mentally. The physical move in August was much much different. Needless to say, it has been a much tougher transition than I imagined back in May. However, I have slowly come to realize that most of that has been my fault. My thinking going into the move was backwards. The picture below is my favorite from the past few months. It is a picture of some friends and I after they helped decorate my Christmas tree. It i...

Staring at the Wall: February 2010

http://jdurlauf.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 18, 2010. What is and is Not Truth. Tuesday, we had an event here at WKU called the Veritas Forum. The speaker at the forum challenged us to think about and seek answers to the "big questions" in life. What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Why is there evil/suffering? What is and is not truth? The struggle of both old and youth. To find what won’t break down. When discord in our life abounds. Why do good and evil appear. In a world full of both smiles and of tears? Remember tru...

Staring at the Wall: November 2011

http://jdurlauf.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 17, 2011. The Road to Recovery. WARNING - this post contains graphic images of my ankle after surgery. Now I find myself in recovery mode. I'm not used to being confined to crutches or fatigue, but things could have been much worse. I have found myself thanking God for the health I do have. It has also forced me to rest, which is something I have never been good at. These photos were taken the day before I had surgery. You can see where I was bitten and how much swelling it caused&...

Staring at the Wall: July 2009

http://jdurlauf.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 28, 2009. I am about one week away from one of the biggest changes in my life. After over twenty seven years, I’m leaving Louisville. It’s true, I lived in St. Louis for about a year in college, but I always knew I was coming back to Louisville. This upcoming move includes no such promise. My heart is coming through my throat. As the future’s staring at me and present becomes the past. So many years this has been my home. But it couldn’t last forever and now it’s time to go away. But I will...

Staring at the Wall: January 2013

Thursday, January 24, 2013. The Long Strange Trip to 32. I don’t have a category for years like this past one. There are times when unfathomable things happen, and life becomes unrecognizable from anything you ever dreamed or imagined. This was one of those times and one of those years…. Painting the Kitchen | Gibson's Workbench

https://gibsonsworkbench.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/painting-the-kitchen

Home furnishings, projects and woodworking. March 12, 2010. The kitchen with a fresh coat of paint. It had been plain white for a while with a wallpaper backsplash that had begun to peel from the wall. Removing the backsplash and adding a nice cornmeal yellow paint made a huge difference and now the kitchen really shines along with the new cabinet knobs we replaced back in January. March 15, 2010 at 3:21 pm. You did an AMAZING job! I am so proud of my husband. Have a great day in the Lord!

Changing Table Topper | Gibson's Workbench

https://gibsonsworkbench.wordpress.com/2010/03/11/changing-table-topper

Home furnishings, projects and woodworking. March 11, 2010. Topper for the changing table in progress. Now that our son is getting bigger and doing a lot more wiggling, it’s time to finish the changing table with a topper that holds the changing pad stationary on the top. It’s a simple box to fit around the changing pad and attaches to the top to secure it in place. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Coffee Table Redo | Gibson's Workbench

https://gibsonsworkbench.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/coffee-table-redo

Home furnishings, projects and woodworking. March 12, 2010. My first coffee table, updated and improved. The first coffee table I ever made, and the second project I ever completed, was really nice. However, it really needed some upgrades using what I’ve learned over the years building furniture. So, the old coffee table got a redo. The table was too tall for a coffee table at 21″ tall, but too short to be a sofa table (one that goes behind the couch). So it was time to cut off its legs!

Baby Crib | Gibson's Workbench

https://gibsonsworkbench.wordpress.com/baby-crib

Home furnishings, projects and woodworking. Progress on one end of the crib. Dimensions: 33 ” x 57″ x 46″. 63 hours in. Rails and mattress support done. Finishing ends. My wife and I are expecting our first baby in August so I am building the crib. This crib is fairly standard and follows the US requirements for crib safety. It is not made to convert into a full bed as some cribs do, its simply a crib. It will be stained the same as the computer desk. In preparation for building the crib. This is going t...

Changing Table | Gibson's Workbench

https://gibsonsworkbench.wordpress.com/changing-table

Home furnishings, projects and woodworking. Dimensions: 20″ x 43″ x 36. My D-Group guys from Louisville came down for a fun-filled weekend and helped me build this changing table for my son. This piece of furniture coordinates with the Baby Crib. And is built with similar style and stained the same. It has an open top shelf for placing wicker baskets on to store stuff for quick access (like diapers) and two other shelves that are closed in with doors. July 28, 2009 at 2:22 pm. I am so proud of you! You a...

Independent Musings

Sunday, April 28, 2013. The priest is not talking about believing that nothing matters but rather of an intense awareness of presence and potential without anxiety about outcome. It is not a matter of one or the other but rather of both at the same time. It is the deep knowing that, "all shall be well" (Julian of Norwich) while at the same time feeling a Sacred Presence while doing what seems to need doing now. Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Connecting Corner

We, the Durosko, Kuhn and Walsh Families are all connected by our Slovak roots. As one of two remaining 'matriarchs' my desire is that the succeeding generations maintain 'connections' either personally or via cyberspace. Each of you carries the connecting link genetically or by loving selection into our family circle. May we treasure and maintain these links into the future. Love, Aunt Joyce.
