an army of ermas: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2012/09/six-degrees-of-kevin-bacon.html
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Actually, this post has nothing to do with Kevin Bacon. I just believe that everything is better with bacon. A better title would be "Six Degrees of Peter Straub," or "How a small town lawyer closed down a bar with Erma blogmate Carole Oldroyd, author Jamie Mason, and a by-gawd literary legend." I owe it all to Erma Bombeck. Yeah, I said Erma Bombeck. Let's see if I can sort it out. I am inducted into a group of the best, funniest, and most wonderful gang of writers ever assem...

an army of ermas: September 2012
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Before children, I was the one who was always late to the party, the one making the glamorous entrance after spending a little extra time perfecting the lipliner or hair flip. I’m late to the play dates because I have to make 30 trips back into the house, grabbing an extra bottle/diaper/stuffed toy/band-aid/directions before we can finally buckle up and back out of the driveway. No matter how many lists I make, no matter how serious I am about planning ahead, it never fails. I’m always late. We definitel...

an army of ermas: Old people are a menace.
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2010/06/old-people-are-menace.html
Old people are a menace. There I said it. My parents are in their mid-70s, one with advancing Parkinson's Disease but doing well and the other regularly lifted 80 lbs of chicken feed weekly for her crazy brood on her tiny farm. Since last Sunday was my birthday (and Father's Day), I received phone calls and made them as per the holiday. Me: Happy Father's Day, Dad! What's new in the world of Parkinson's? Seriously, it started out like this). Me: So you'll essentially blow up like a frog in biology class?

an army of ermas: Water makes me poop.
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2010/04/water-makes-me-poop.html
Water makes me poop. For some, water can be fatal. My 3-year-old son enlightened me to the danger. If not for him- I may be in critical condition, right now. Normally I am very proud of my children's eating habits. They eat tomatoes like apples, beg for salad and think broccoli is a treat. How often do you hear kids fight over the broccoli stem? Back to the deadly water. Water is nasty.". Water is not nasty, honey. It makes you grow.". No NO water. It makes me throw up.". The biggest problem was that he'...

an army of ermas: Bacon, Boobies and Bad Choices
http://www.anarmyofermas.com/2012/09/bacon-boobies-and-bad-choices.html
Bacon, Boobies and Bad Choices. Said, I would go on home to be with the Lord. Luckily I’m a fairly decent wrangler. So many topics have flowed out of our minds, through our fingers and hit the digital page. Dating, marriage, childbirth and labor (in the middle of winter), empty nests, diapers, college, new houses, pantyhose and bra straps. M*A*S*H episodes, laundry, cooking (as a sport! Diets, death and flaming toast - who among us can’t relate? And Irrational Propensity - Renovations. Why was I not told?

Delightful words | Ed VanDeMark
https://oldelvdm16.wordpress.com/2012/01/17/delightful-words
Writing, cartoons, personal view points, Christianity. Not so much today. Then and now →. January 17, 2012. I like some words not because of their meanings, or because they spark good memories but simply because they’re fun to spell. Rendezvous is my number one favorite word to spell. I learned to spell it one day when I was stopped for a long traffic light behind a car, a Rendezvous. Euthanasia took me a long time to find in the dictionary and I have a great story to go along with it. Not so much today.

Catherine Zoller: April 2011
http://catherinezoller.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 23, 2011. A woman in my Bible study sent me a link with the lyrics to a song about loss- and the loss of a child particularly- that really moved my heart. What follows is my response to her and the other women in our core group. There were many times during Jordan's life and illness when his friends would ask him if he ever wondered, "Why me? Said, "No, never! The question is 'Why not. From the time he was 2 (I am NOT making this up! But he did.). It was eleven years ago Easter weekend wh...
