I dream of Jean-elize

I dream of Jean-elize. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Forest Hills and Isla Bonita. Monday, April 26, 2010. I can’t believe how fast the last week of school has gone by. One highlight from the school week was on Tuesday when I had my class do the Oh Deer simulation, but changed it to Oh Jaguar. We are discussing wildlife conservation in my class and this activity went along with that topic perfectly. After the simulation, students were able to identify factors necessary for animals to survive and reproduce.

I dream of Jean-elize: Life is an adventure...embrace it!

http://www.jeannehennessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/blog-post.html

I dream of Jean-elize. Thursday, April 1, 2010. Life is an adventure.embrace it! Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, a small group of us volunteered at the San Pedro Public Library. Compared to the libraries in Wilmington, this library is really tiny and doesn’t have the best book selection. Something that we noticed was that there weren’t any books on Belize or its culture. There were a lot of American books in the library. The kids were 4 to 8 years old. Something that made me really happy was when I saw o...

I dream of Jean-elize: This is Heaven

http://www.jeannehennessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/this-is-heaven.html

I dream of Jean-elize. Friday, April 23, 2010. As usual, this past weekend. Was filled with new and exciting Belizean adventur. On Saturday, Natalie, Tess, Anna, Keri, Brianna, Stephanie. And I decided to go parasailing. I went up in the air with Natalie and enjoyed the breathtaking. Views of the island and ocean. Parasailing is the most relaxing activity and I wish I could have done it for hours. Shades of blue, the. Ocean water in Belize is tr. On Sunday, the whole group. Lunch took a really long time,...

I dream of Jean-elize: You're only in Guatemala ONE day

http://www.jeannehennessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/youre-only-in-guatemala-one-time.html

I dream of Jean-elize. Sunday, April 11, 2010. You're only in Guatemala ONE day. We woke up early Tuesday morning, got on a Belizean style truck/wagon and began our journey to Guatemala. It was only a 15-minute drive to the border and we had to wait there for almost 2 hours. When we finally crossed the border into Guatemala, the group split up and piled into 2 vans. It was another hour and a half to our destination, Tikal. Tikal is one of the largest archaeological sites filled with Mayan ruins.

I dream of Jean-elize: Normal is Boring

http://www.jeannehennessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/normal-is-boring.html

I dream of Jean-elize. Friday, April 16, 2010. Teaching abroad has been an incredibly positive experience. I could sit in a classroom and be lectured on Belize and what teaching in another country is like, but would that tell the truth? Would that really be enough? Actually being in a different country has made me extremely more knowledgeable and the experiences that I have here will stay with me forever. Now I understand two education systems. Looking back on this week I feel very proud of myself. I wou...

I dream of Jean-elize: A Day in San Ignacio

http://www.jeannehennessy.blogspot.com/2010/04/grap-fruit-and-crackers-please.html

I dream of Jean-elize. Sunday, April 11, 2010. A Day in San Ignacio. On Thursday, a group of us spent the day walking around the town of San Ignacio. The town is small and very quiet. It reminded me of the small towns that are in the mountains of North Carolina. Both San Pedro and San Ignacio are laid back places and are filled with friendly people. In San Pedro we are seen as teachers, and in San Ignacio we were seen as tourists. Also, San Pedro is a very expensive place. Forest Hills and Isla Bonita.

It's Belizeable!: April 2010

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 23, 2010. Soak It All In. Well, it's almost over. This time tomorrow, I will be in Miami, probably sleeping in some hotel or stressing out about all the insane things I have to get done in the two weeks before I graduate. Did I say that right? Two weeks before I graduate? Five and a half weeks in Belize already over? Keri and Katy actually convinced me to go out tonight and hang out? I really can't believe it, but it's true, and time really does fly when you're having fun. One of Dr. Ca...

It's Belizeable!: Comparisons

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010/04/comparisons.html

Monday, April 19, 2010. Which isn't to say things weren't as western. There were certainly just as many western amenities and comforts around for the tourists. However, you could tell that the locals just lived a little bit differently than they do in San Pedro. Things were more laid back, there wasn't really a night life to speak of, and there was more farmland, and more people of Mayan descent - or so I was told. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). It's Belizeable!: Education In Belize

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010/04/education-in-belize.html

Tuesday, April 20, 2010. One of Dr. Catapano's prompts for the Belize field experience was to write about how children are viewed in Belize culture. How children are viewed, she wrote, influences many things related to education and public policy, not to mention social aspects to how children, teenagers, and students are viewed in education. It's quite a difficult thing to write about, and I waited awhile before mentioning it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Dr Kubasko's Web Page. Jeanne H.'s Blog.

It's Belizeable!: March 2010

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 31, 2010. That's Why It's Called Fishing, Not Catching". Monday, March 29, 2010. So, I know I should be blogging more. Belize is amazing, and I've just been overwhelmed with all the cool stuff I've had a chance to do this past week. I taught in the schools all week. I am teaching the novel The Schoolmaster. Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Basically, if you haven't figured it out, I'm having a great time, and I'm enjoying observing the kids and teachers. Like I said elsewhere, teenagers se...

It's Belizeable!: Gone To The Dogs

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010/04/gone-to-dogs.html

Friday, April 2, 2010. Gone To The Dogs. Anyway, before we go inland, this week has been taken up with various service projects. We're meant to spend about 20 hours working in the community. The high school teachers were all going to paint the school, but the paint from the ministry of education seems to be running on what we call "Belize time" here. Therefore, I've been going around trying to find more creative ways to get my hours in. April 2, 2010 at 4:43 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Sunday, April 18, 2010. Well, it's been awhile since I've blogged on here! That is a shame, because this is actually for a grade, and I have a few more posts to do before I meet the passing quota. Odd for me. Can you imagine me not having much to say? Well, to put it simply, I've been incredibly busy for the last two weeks. I have a lot to catch people up on, but mainly I want to talk about my week inland. It was really one of the most incredible weeks of my life. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

It's Belizeable!: More Comparisons

http://hollomaninbelize.blogspot.com/2010/04/more-comparisons.html

Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Student teaching in Wilmington was a pretty intense experience. I absolutely loved the the community of teachers at Hoggard High, but I also have to admit that the standards were very high. And hey, that's absolutely fine with me. It's what I would have expected and how could I ask for anything less? I was pushed to perfect my lesson plans, my methods of giving instruction, my classroom management skills, and pretty much everything else that was related to my teaching.
