A Modern Market Town. Welcome to the Royal and Ancient Burgh of Jedburgh - privilege status bestowed by King Alexander II in 1214. Already home to one of the finest Augustinian abbeys in Scotland, the royal charter confirmed Jedburghs importance on Scotlands historic A-list, later to be strengthend through its connections to Mary Queen of Scots and a superb castle jail renowned for its ghostly goings-on. A gentle stroll into town offers cafes, restaurants and plenty of independent shops along the way.
