Raku is an area where I have extensive experience. Having taught Raku at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists Residencies for about 7 year, hundreds and hundreds of firings have led to a greater understanding of the process and timing involved with each piece. The glossy surfaces uses a glaze of mine, while the more matte surface has nothing but burned horse hair on them. Two of the most popular styles I offer. Sculpture can be a wide ranging topic. To me it means using a more free method, with fewer "rules" and additional and new materials. From making bowls out of cookie dough, to complex stacking sculptures in clay, to mixed materials in glass and coppers - sculpture and experimenting are a very important part of the creative process. I have been awarded a FY 2017 Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. One of the driving forces behind the decision to relocate to the state of Minnesota was its reputation as an ardent supporter of the arts. The opportunity could not have come at a better time and I am so grateful. The grant will allow me to grow both my artistic and professional practice as I prepare new work for an exhibition this fall. Stay tuned!
