Birds from the Ricks: Green-tailed Towhee
http://welovebirdsinwyoming.blogspot.com/2010/08/green-tailed-towhee.html
Birds from the Ricks. Sunday, August 22, 2010. It has been a nice quiet summer with not a lot of bird action around the house. Tonight I glanced out the back window and saw a large finchish looking bird. After looking closer, I saw that it wasn't a finch at all, but a Towhee. This is another new bird for us here in Wyoming. His red cap was very distinctive, and his white chin was very lovely. It was a getting dark with the onset of a storm, so it was hard to see his green tail. View my complete profile.

Birds from the Ricks: Edited- Great Horned Owls
http://welovebirdsinwyoming.blogspot.com/2010/07/great-horned-owls.html
Birds from the Ricks. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. Edited- Great Horned Owls. We haven't been out very much in the last few weeks, due to the summer heat and the enormous amounts of mosquitoes! But, last night when I was going to unplug the bug zapper, we heard this. After a little while we heard this. The unmistakable hoot of the Great Horned Owl! I just think it is one of the most beautiful sounds! I could listen to it forever. It didn't work, so I tried to cover the flash. It obviously didn't work! We prob...

KatDoc's World: October 2009
http://katdocsworld.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Nature, pottery, pets, and me. Thursday, October 29, 2009. I need a bug expert. And, I do mean "bug," as in "true bug" rather than "generic insect." I've got it narrowed down that far, based on the piercing-sucking mouth parts, the half-leathery wings folded in an "X" on the back and the long antenna. Near as I can come, using my handy-dandy Kenn Kaufman insect guide, is variety of Leaf-footed Bugs, genus Acanthocephala. I can't get any closer, either common name or species. Anybody want to chime in here?

As seen through my lens. Sunday, March 11, 2012. She paused for a long, cool drink,. Hopped on a hot rock,. And closed her eyes. The sun’s warmth. On a Spring afternoon,.
