The end of pleasures you provided while. As rounded child you filled my home with toys. And trilling songs that amplified your smile. And spread the warmth of your vivacious joys. Remain that vernal girl, by seasons grown. To womanhood that owns all Eden's art. Yet keeps the childish wonderment we've known.

And closes even shadows from my mind. Which shrinks to contemplate a total black. Eternity; my vision cannot find. A silvered mirror shining comfort back. My life has made an insufficient trade. For too much partial joy and cunning lust. That tempted self-deception to evade. The certainty that whims reduce to dust.

I wonder does the grieving wife who set. The pumpkin here to decorate the grave. Of her lost husband through October's wet. And early dusk dislike the crows that crave. The inner pulp and seeds of her orange charm. And so remove in ragged pecks its crown. When she revisits will she feel alarm. To see her gaudy mums now soured to brown. And fear the vacant wind that plants debris. In random heaps upon the pitted earth. Where formerly she strove so anxiously. To craft a picturesque eternal berth?
