This week's feature story or trek. Cruising the Black Waters of Fiordland (2008). ACCORDING to Maori legend Fiordland was once a large flat rock. The great god Tu-te-raki-whanoa was assigned the task of shaping the coast. Chanting a powerful karakia (prayer) he used a giant toki (adze) to cut through the towering rock at the southern end leaving Resolution and Secretary Islands where he stood.
