Jeff's Ironman Journey

On August 31, 2010, I entered Ironman Louisville 2011. This was initially the story of my journey to the race, but it will continue to be my place for all things training and tri. Friday, July 4, 2014. Ironman Coeur d'Alene Race Report. Once we got our swag, wristbands and all that, we did a little shopping at the Ironman store where I picked up a water bottle, and t-shirt with all the athletes names on the back. A funny moment happened while shopping as they had the actual finisher's medal displayed...

On August 31, 2010, I entered Ironman Louisville 2011. This was initially the story of my journey to the race, but it will continue to be my place for all things training and tri. Sunday, January 27, 2013. Shelbyville Tri Series #1 Report. Today was the first of the winter series Shelbyville Triathlons. I went to have fun but also wanted to see how far along my running and swimming had come since my run speed has been excellent and I'd been through about 6 swim lessons. Wednesday, January 23, 2013. I did...

On August 31, 2010, I entered Ironman Louisville 2011. This was initially the story of my journey to the race, but it will continue to be my place for all things training and tri. Thursday, December 19, 2013. Why don't you show my pal Lewis some love on his blog? He's writing his first blog and chronicling his 2014 adventures including the London and Berlin marathons and Ironman Kalmar. You can find it here. Before I get to the new content, yeah, here is my plea again. So where do you start? The biggest ...

Friday, February 7, 2014. Back into the Swing of Things. A couple people have asked about a new blog post and my response has been "not much to write about" and the suggestion was to write about my training. So here it goes. I can't end this post without a charity plug. My donations have essentially ceased, what's the deal?

Sunday, March 9, 2014. Rodes City Run 10K Report. The weather was nearly perfect, about 40F or so with hardly any wind. I paired up with my pal Scott, I set my Garmin to my goal pace, and off we went. From the event, a double shirt and a little breeze made me look like a total fatty haha). We ran the last .2 at a 7:19 pace.

Sunday, July 21, 2013. Ironman 70.3 Muncie Race Report. Grand total for the day: 6:26:50, a 2 hour PR! Obviously my other half-Ironman was total rubbish but I was certainly proud of myself and the improvements I've made. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ironman 70.3 Muncie Race Report. ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Sunday, 26 May 2013. Grendon tri - race report. As I mentioned before, I'd had a busy week. I'd not had time to get nervous about Grendon. Strange, as I had thrown my £10 in the BTF aiming to qualify for the 2014 European champs. Whilst I knew getting in the top 4 of my AG would be very tough, I was aiming for the sub 120% of AG winner time. This would put me in the rolldown list. Swim - 750 m. We had been instructed to turn 3/4 of the bu...

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Sunday, 8 September 2013. It's been a month or so since I posted last. In that time I have been increasing my running steadily and also getting some good bike rides in. I turned 35 and became a Veteran at Parkrun and PO10. I also got food poisoning and lost 4.5km in one week! My wife has also embraced running and she Parkruns every week without fail! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Friday, 9 August 2013. Time trialling again. and running! A busy end of July and early August. Holidays, work travel. Last night was my first outing on H10/10 this year. A lumpy kinda exposed course. First TT since the beginning of July too. I'll admit it was hard. I prefer to TT with a visor rather than sunnies as the vis is better; the sweat dripping off my nose is not. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I started running in 2010, finishing my...

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Tuesday, 29 October 2013. Prompted, stage left. I was recently told by someone that they followed my blog, which instantly brought about some guilt of a recent update. Sorry! I'm enjoying some easy paced cycling in the week and some longer rides at the weekend. They help to offset the training load from the running. Every now and then I'm throwing in a harder turbo as a tester. Tonight was TrainerRoad. S Raymond, a 4x5min at 108% FTP.

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Monday, 5 May 2014. I've spent the past few parkrundays volunteering. It's always nice to get out there and help. However this Saturday was different. After a bike TT last week to test bike fitness and health under pressure it was time to test my run fitness. Easter was busy with some good training and plenty of time with the family. Both kids are really enjoying their cycling and running, as is my wife. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Thursday, 10 April 2014. Family: my support crew. The family are going great guns. My wife completed her first half-marathon this year at Reading. I'm really proud of her, and she's come along way since being last finisher at Margate parkrun on a windy June morning last year. She took part in her first triathlon; a practise one as part of the club. A single length in the pool followed by 2km on the bike then a 1km run. Good effort! The 3 ...

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Tuesday, 16 July 2013. Running man - learning from mistakes. I'm back running (again, I think). Both Pfitzinger and Daniels (I believe) recommend holding distance for 3 weeks before adding a maximum of 1 mile (1.6 km) per weekly running day (3 days = 3 miles, etc). My achilles injury really means baby steps and I'll keep this in mind. It may even be more than 3 weeks. Wednesday, 10 July 2013. The inbound leg is uphill but downwind, so som...

ChrisAitken Run Bike Run. Runner, Cyclist, Sometimes GB Duathlete. Sunday, 5 January 2014. 2013 - what a year! As I sit here in January I can reflect upon 2013, and what a year it was. Some great sprint-distance duathlon racing at Dorney Lake in sunshine, a cold Althorp and a torrential Marlow. The season culminated in racing for the GB age-group team at the European sprint duathlon champs in the Netherlands. I came 13th in age-group. So despite some negatives it has been a great year for me. Has been up...

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Chartering a Course for Success through Failure: Charter Schools. Charter Schools are nine times more likely to fail than Public Schools in Florida. This proves two things: 1) Public Schools should be supported, and 2) Charter Schools, despite their increased mainstream role, are doing their job. But lest we forget, the Sunshine State has placed many more resources in this oft-failing initiative in an ill-advised attempt to reform Florida's "failing" education. I can't help ...
