http://jeffsmovieblog.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 24, 2013. I'm so excited for tomorrow's Academy Awards! Here are my thoughts about some of the biggest categories. The star icon denotes my predicted winner; the heart indicates the one I like the most. Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook. Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln. Denzel Washington, Flight. Hugh Jackman, Les Misérables. Joaquin Phoenix, The Master. Is the Academy ready to give a third Best Actor award to Daniel Day-Lewis? But some viewers found the movie to be difficult and overlon...

Sunday, February 28, 2016. Here are my picks for tonight's Oscars! I'm ready for the Oscars! Here are my bold predictions, marked with gold stars. The red hearts are for the ones I liked the most. Mad Max: Fury Road. There is a real chance that Spotlight. Or The Big Short. Could take this prize. Has the epic, timeless qualities of many past Best Picture winners. Meanwhile, I’m a sucker for a well-made coming-of-age story, and Brooklyn. Is a very fine example. Adam McKay, The Big Short. Brie Larson, Room.

Amy Adams, Doubt. Debra Winger, Rachel Getting Married. Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Here are my bold predictions for Sunday night. The star icon denotes my predicted winner; the heart indicates the one I like the most. Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon. Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler. Richard Jenkins, The Visitor. Sean Penn, The Dark Knight. All great performances here, though I would put Brad Pitt at the bottom of the list. While he did a fine job, the real star of Benjamin Button. Meryl Streep, Doubt. Here is the first...

Jeff's Movie Blog: March 2014

Saturday, March 1, 2014. I'm ready for the Oscars! Here are my bold predictions, marked with gold stars. The red hearts are for the ones I liked the most. Captain Phillips ♥. 12 Years A Slave ★. The Wolf of Wall Street. The Academy almost never rewards science-fiction movies in this category, so I think Gravity. Will fall short here, though it will win several other categories. I liked all of the nominated films except American Hustle. Hated it) and Her. Alexander Payne, Nebraska. Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity.

Monday, February 28, 2011. Academy Awards - Reactions. My predictions this year were so-so. My big upset pick (Geoffrey Rush) let me down. But I had a great evening watching the ceremony with friends. Breezy, self-assured- a joy to watch. David Seidler's wonderful acceptance speech for Original Screenplay. Halle Berry's tribute to Lena Horne. And Halle's dress. And Halle in general. That King's Speech producer who thanked his husband. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE. James Franco. Wooden, dull, possibly stoned. An up...

Saturday, February 21, 2015. Predicting the Academy Award Winners! I'm ready for the Oscars! Here are my bold predictions, marked with gold stars. The red hearts are for the ones I liked the most. The Grand Budapest Hotel. The Theory of Everything. This is a tight race. I think the voters will go with Birdman. Because of its combination of technical wizardy, fantastic acting, and artistic vision. But a lot of people really love Boyhood. Should have been nominated: Ida. Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman.

Friday, January 29, 2010. Up in the Air. Where the Wild Things Are. Little movies without studio hype machines are often overlooked by the Academy in this category. There were several great ones this year, particularly Moon. I hope that I'll be proven wrong and that these two get nominations on Tuesday, but I'm not counting on it. Where the Wild Things Are. I've seen Up in the Air. Has amazing visuals, but the story is beyond awful, so I can't stomach putting it on my list of favorites. But the flyin...

The Kodak Theatre itself, so grand and glorious. Jon Stewart giving Marketa Irglova a chance to speak. Best Actress: Marion Cotillard, La Vie en Rose. Art Direction: Sweeney Todd. Film Editing: The Bourne Ultimatum. Original Song: "Falling Slowly," Once. Makeup: La Vie en Rose. Best performances on the E! Network's red carpet telecast:. I'll lis...
