Jenbroidery: March 2014

http://jenbroidery.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 17, 2014. M5, CHAPTER 5: QUILTING, PADDING and STUFFING. In this section I explored  several techniques for quilting and stuffing layers of fabric, as well as experimenting with a range of materials, patterns  and stitching. 11 Various top layers, batting, designs and stitches. These samples show the effects achieved by varying the loft of the batting. Flannelette top layer with thick polyester batting (high loft) and diagonal quilting in running stitch. Polyester velvet top layer with wool...

Jenbroidery: CHAPTER 9: THREADS AND STITCHERY

http://jenbroidery.blogspot.com/2015/01/chapter-9-threads-and-stitchery.html

Friday, January 2, 2015. CHAPTER 9: THREADS AND STITCHERY. I worked a panel with some examples of stitches from each of the five stitch families. I used this as an opportunity to try out some stitches that I had never done before. A variety of threads was used including Perle 5 and Perle 8, quilting thread, polyester machine thread, white wool, composite wool/synthetic yarn, stranded cotton. Here is a view of the entire panel:. Now let’s look at each individual stitch family. Bottom row: square chain.

Jenbroidery: CHAPTER 10: STITCH TO TRANSLATE

http://jenbroidery.blogspot.com/2015/03/chapter-10-stitch-to-translate.html

Sunday, March 22, 2015. CHAPTER 10: STITCH TO TRANSLATE. In this section I experimented with various stitches to translate rubbed marks, confining the stitching to white/cream on black fabric. I chose examples where the pieces used for the rubbing had been produced with a variety of techniques so I could experiment with a range of stitches. Sample A: Tissue paper rubbing from a paper relief. Sample B: Tissue paper rubbing from a machine stitched sample. Rubbing directly onto fabric. I then produced 3 sam...

Jenbroidery: M5: CHAPTER 12 – ADDITIONAL TRIALS

http://jenbroidery.blogspot.com/2015/05/m5-chapter-12-additional-trials.html

Tuesday, May 5, 2015. M5: CHAPTER 12 – ADDITIONAL TRIALS. Following feedback from Sian I experimented a little more with design A before moving on to produce the final piece. At Sian’s suggestion, I took one of my earlier samples of the pintucked sheer fabric and cut it into pieces. I then rearranged these onto the backing fabric so that the twin lines changed angle several times. This gave a more interesting effect for this section of the work. Tuesday, May 05, 2015. However, I have now finished the piece and I thought those who have been to this year's summer school may like to see it. Here it is:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ive been stitchin...
