Wednesday, April 29, 2009. The House passed a bill updating the definitions of hate crimes. To include added protections based on sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and disability. The bill will also provide a financial support to state and local authorities, with grants for investigation and prosecution of hate crimes. Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Soldier kills fellow soldiers. A US soldier killed 5 other U.S. soldiers at a clinic at Camp Liberty on the outskirts of Baghdad. Sgt. John Russell, a communications specialist, had been sent to the clinic for stress control. Russell has been charged with five counts of murder and 1 count of aggravated assault.
