Colors of the World: Learning to Scuba Dive - Koh Tao, Thailand
http://jeneambrose.blogspot.com/2012/07/learning-to-scuba-dive-koh-tao-thailand.html
Colors of the World. Reflections on travel, life abroad, and international aid and development. Monday, July 30, 2012. Learning to Scuba Dive - Koh Tao, Thailand. The 617-mile trip from Tanah Rata, Malaysia. To Koh Tao, Thailand. Turned out to be much trickier than I’d anticipated, but it ended up going fairly smoothly. The trip required a minibus from Tanah Rata, a brief stop in Georgetown. Open Water scuba diving course. Our choice was made easy. The tiny island (just eight square miles) of Koh Tao...

Colors of the World. Reflections on travel, life abroad, and international aid and development. Friday, February 17, 2012. To follow up on my last post. Here’s a list of things that aren't. Not answering your phone, no matter the time or reason. Turning down an offer of food or drink. Turning down an offer of seconds or thirds. Not finishing the amount given to you, regardless of how much it is. Turning down an invitation for any reason (even if it's because of work). Jennifer E. Ambrose. Not saying R...
Colors of the World: Reflections - Westerners in Africa
http://jeneambrose.blogspot.com/2011/02/reflections-westerners-in-africa.html
Colors of the World. Reflections on travel, life abroad, and international aid and development. Monday, February 7, 2011. Reflections - Westerners in Africa. I warned you that I’d soon be ranting about the behavior of Westerners in Africa. In general, too many bazungu. Are unhygienic, unprofessional, and inappropriate. I used to be one of them, but my time in Rwanda has helped me realize that’s not okay. Rwandans expect foreigners to furnish and decorate our houses, just as they do. Many Rwandans drink a...

http://jeneambrose.blogspot.com/2012/06/unique-hilltribe-trek.html
Colors of the World. Reflections on travel, life abroad, and international aid and development. Thursday, June 28, 2012. A Unique Hilltribe Trek. One of the things we really wanted to do in northern Thailand was a hilltribe trek. 8211; a multi-day hike through the countryside staying overnight in minority villages – and one of the reasons we opted not to go to. 8221; when I showed her a picture of one! With other well-known groups including,. The people of these tribes are quite separated from mainstream...

Time Travel Machine Design
Time Travel Machine Design. A little blog about retro travel, old motels and Design. Monday, 19 March 2012. I managed to find these stashed away in a dusty old place in the corner of my parents attic. I'm sure many of you have similar photos of your parents and grandparents with wide lapels and beehives. I sorted through them and picked out the greatest hits. The photo in the pool hall is my all-time fav! Do you think it would be a good idea for a painting? Maybe a triptych painting?

Colors of the World
Colors of the World. Reflections on travel, life abroad, and international aid and development. Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Last Night in Bangkok. After our week at the farm. Ryan and I headed back to Bangkok to fly home. For our final night in Southeast Asia, we stayed at the most expensive hotel of the trip – the Lamphu Tree House. In Bangkok’s Banglamphu. Neighborhood. $52 there earned us a lovely air-conditioned room with a fridge and balcony, and a very extensive breakfast buffet. Surprisingly, and al...

The Johnson Family
Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Ok, another catch up post! We love Halloween around here. It's definitely one of my favorites. It always seems to come and go too quickly. (like everything else.). This year, Eric did NOT want to dress up as a family. I was a little sad about that but I knew the day would come eventually and it did make Halloween less stressful and cheap. :) I like that! All that's left is the yucky not very good candy. Jene and I definitely took our "candy tax"! Monday, November 25, 2013.
