History is what you can remember: History never tasted so good

http://jennaleifso.blogspot.com/2010/01/history-never-tasted-so-good.html

History is what you can remember. Saturday, January 9, 2010. History never tasted so good. Upon hearing this word, many people think:" rich old white men who drank too much. And the tedious memorization of "important" dates. For awhile, I also believed that history was about being able to remember the details of important events. Mostly men] that made them happened. Then I started studying history at university and I realized that women. Actually contributed to the past and so did " poor. I am a first ti...

History is what you can remember. Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Were washed away in Fortress Louisbourg. Due to a winter storm. Many archaeological heritage sites in Canada close for the winter season, which, in the case of L'Anse. Aux Meadows, can span from October to the end of May, resulting in a very limited tourist season. But what can be done to allow visitors access to archaeological sites year round, despite cold winds and snow? He Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History. The one problem I had...

History is what you can remember: Hey Rosetta Stone!

http://jennaleifso.blogspot.com/2009/12/hey-rosetta-stone.html

History is what you can remember. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. I think people underestimate the amount of controversy that can happen within the walls of a museum. Of course, with recent strikes at museums in Ottawa and Paris, the public is slowly become aware that museum communities are not cold, comatose, and static institutions but are willing to fight for themselves and the collections of which they are entrusted. That Egyptians museum professionals are willing to negotiate and hopefully reach a compro...

History is what you can remember: Historically fashionable

http://jennaleifso.blogspot.com/2009/11/historically-fashionable.html

History is what you can remember. Monday, November 2, 2009. Through my job at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Archives, I recently had the amazing opportunity to venture to Toronto and attend the opening show for LG Fashion Week, Beauty by L'Oreal. The first runway show of the evening celebrated L'Oreal's 100th anniversary and featured designs inspired by the style of each decade the beauty empire has been in business, beginning with 1910. Those models can move! Hion show, was going from the slim "fla...

History is what you can remember: iPhones, Museums, and You

http://jennaleifso.blogspot.com/2009/11/iphones-museums-and-you.html

History is what you can remember. Sunday, November 29, 2009. IPhones, Museums, and You. I remember a gr. 6 field trip to visit Casa Loma. In Toronto. As part of the tour we were given listening devices that resembled a Walkman (or a portable audio cassette player). I recently read an article. That declared iPhones and "apps". The technology of choice for museums, like the Victoria and Albert Museum. People love technology and showing off their latest gadget. Bringing iPhones into museums gives people...

a revolution without dancing...: February 2009

http://rlablance.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

A revolution without dancing. Is hardly a revolution worth having. Using the wonders of Google, Skyline Inc. has just released it’s plagiarism-detector 8.0. It can check Word documents, PDFs, and power point presentations, among others. Against any published source on the internet, using Google’s search algorithms. Sounds like a much better source than Turnitin.com – and it also looks like it would be one heck of a lot cheaper! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

A revolution without dancing. Is hardly a revolution worth having. More Challenging than I thought. I find it strange how much thought and effort I put into the title and the about me section of this blog. Upon reflection, neither look as though they were given much effort I suppose. It's odd that I would sit and contemplate both for such a long time, but then, I suppose those first impressions do mean a lot. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). More Challenging than I thought. A revolution without dancing. Is hardly a revolution worth having. I came across this photographic essay. A little while ago, and it nicely demonstrates why it is that I hope to never in my life own a diamond. This includes a (hopefully) future engagement ring. I had never really thought about the diamond industry before I took African history courses with John Laband. A small excerpt from the book. 8216;Is that what I think it is? 8217; I asked. A revolution without dancing. Is hardly a revolution worth having. A future without books? I just came across this article, The Future of Reading. And I must say, I'm both incredibly intrigued and a little frightened at the same time. Now, let's start with the fright:. Might not be that far off. Truly scary! It would be amazing to carry multiple copies of books at once! And research would be a breeze! Where was this thing five years ago when I started my undergrad? A combination of fright and intrigue:.

I stumbled across an interesting Newsweek photo essay earlier today, which linked me to a Library of Congress exhibit. It's a collection of color photographs from Russia, taken between 1907 and 1915. Yes, I said. The Library of Congress has chosen to highlight certain images, but there are certain many more to enjoy - some of which you can see in the Newsweek article. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A revolution without dancing. Is hardly a revolution worth having. Just what are they up to? I remembered after reading Terry Cook’s article. 8211; “Archival Appraisal and Collection: Issues, Challenges, New Approaches” in which he discusses illegal records destruction – that I had read articles last week about Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney attempting to keep (what arguably should be) public records private.

Sunday, May 11, 2014. Mother's Day, 2014. Today was harder than any other Mother's Day I've had. I'm not even sure why. I have been dreading it for weeks. I had even bought myself a necklace and almost lost it when I held it in my hands for the first time. It is so beautiful. It also has 7 clear stones in it for my 7 Angel babies. I texted him, "I am a mother.". Before we got off the phone, his last few words of the conversation were, "Wear your necklace proud, baby." I told him that I absolutely will.

Una Ragazza in Italia. Una Ragazza in Italia. A little about me. L’ultima Notte a Firenze. Sadly, this beautiful journey through places so stunning I have only ever dreamed of seeing has had to come to an end. My last week in Florence was full of…. Una Piccola Osteria a Siena. While on our day trip in Siena, we had the privilege of stumbling upon the most charming osteria while rushing to find a place to eat before the restaurants close…. Santa Maria del Fiore. Il Mercato di Natale. I Panini di Firenze.
