musings… | Mnemosyne and Me

Just another WordPress.com site. Asymp; 4 Comments. Ahh–to write the final blog for Oral Traditions, to reflect on a final class by our professor, is, well…. poignant. I clearly recall my very first Sexson class. I hadn’t been in school for 30 years, drove to MSU with fear and trembling (why am I so nervous? What was I in for? Suddenly, I had serious doubts about going back to school. I remember going home, crawling in bed, and sleeping for hours. But then,. I woke up,. Reading our texts, having class di...

Just another WordPress.com site. Asymp; Leave a comment. Ong ch.7: “Formalism and the new criticism showed a shift toward text.” That the style of women authors was less formal(and more creative? Than the more formally educated men, is quite intriguing to me. It’s probably what made their writing real. You know, less puffed up with posing and being concerned about how things are ‘supposed’ to look in acadamia. How did the orality shift affect them? A few Ong One Liners:. Role of the oral in religion is d...
Narrative Embedded in Time | Mnemosyne and Me

Just another WordPress.com site. Narrative Embedded in Time. Asymp; Leave a comment. What does it really mean to say narrative is embedded in time? I think it means that story always occurs within a particular setting, at a particular time. In my novel, I want to suspend time, to have the characters exist outside time, hence they will become lost in the Memory Palace. I didn’t spend much time on my Musey Room Poster, and I actually spent a lot of time on it, so here’s a few pics:. Larr; Previous post.

Just another WordPress.com site. Asymp; Leave a comment. The episodic structure of orality is much more interesting than straight, linear plots. And orality is the remembrance of what has gone on before, even while it is still going on. Ong says this beautifully when he states, “The singer is remembering in a curiously public way. Song is the remembrance of songs sung. Flat characters are, I suppose, archetypical. We live with uncertainty. Our world seems to be more comfortable with that, or at least...

Down the Rabbit Hole Jacky. Sunday, April 29, 2012. Comes from the same root word as token:. The Old English word tacn,. Meaning "symbol and "to show". Atypical Angela: Memories of Home

Oral Traditions: Study of memory and application. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. I am currently taking Regional Lit. and we were asked to do a poetry prompt paying off of another poem called county. I decided to post it because it came from memories that I have of my home county. The county of enumerable sagebrush. County of gravel roads. County of broken fences. Fences always needing fixed. County of grazing cattle. County of rocky mountain oysters and Ice cold beer. After a hard day of branding. Ong hangs wi...

Thursday, January 26, 2012. Battle of the Siblings. My brother is seven years younger than I am, thus when asked how Bailey and I get along I always respond- "we get along great, because I am so much older we have nothing to argue or fight over. It would be immature for me to pick battles with my little brother.". Memory Palace for the Muses'. So I need to continue to work on my oral presentation, but I am on my way to committing the muses' to memory! Yes this is my "YAY" moment. Tuesday, January 24, 2012.

Oral Traditions: Study of memory and application. Thursday, April 19, 2012. Ong hangs with the Muses. When trying to memorize Ong's 9 characteristics of orally based thought I found it easier to attach them to the 9 muses. 1) When walking to my house I see. Writing her epic poetry and she is saying "and then this happened, and then this, and then this." (Additive rather than subordinate). 2) In the living room is. Watching the history channel. Aggregative rather than analytical). 4) In the bedroom is.

Oral Traditions: Study of memory and application. Monday, April 23, 2012. On Jan. 23rd the class discussed flyting or the exchange of insults. This can often be seen during rap battles. Many of us have probably participated in flyting without realizing it. We were told to describe one of these situations which can be seen during wars with siblings. Tavlor to die for! Måste få dela med mig igen, haha! Skönt att vara ledig...
