Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. Down in the Valley. November 24, 2013. I enjoy having a dog for many reasons : his unconditional love and affection, the companionship and security he gives us, and for leading me to places that I might never have seen. That’s how we discovered Todmorden Mills. And a riding stable. In 1967 it was named a heritage site. And began to operate as a community museum. Today it functions as a g...

Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. November 12, 2013. It’s true that there’s no place like home. And for a time, some time ago, London, England was my home. When I was much younger and living in a foreign city, it was exciting for me just to. Regent Street. All decked out for the holiday shopping season. I still feel very much at home in London. The most wonderful thing about the city is, that as much as it changes, it st...

Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. November 18, 2013. This city girl actually grew up two doors down from a working farm. A field of sweet corn stretched into the horizon on the other side of our back fence. It wasn’t exactly Little House on the Prairie, but I grew up on the edge of a city in Essex County, home to “Canada’s Tomato Capital.”. And throughout the summer I supplement our menu with fresh produce from a midweek, lu...

Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. Damp dogs and heavenly shores. November 1, 2013. My vision of heaven is a long stretch of beach, with the sun shining and a breeze blowing. And I’m surrounded by the company of lots and lots of happy dogs. Here on earth, Cherry Beach. Many breeds love the water, and here they can swim and fetch to the point of happy exhaustion. Cherry beach is easily accessible from Lake Shore Boulevard.

Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. Somewhere Under the Rainbow. October 21, 2013. Anybody travelling north on the Don Valley Parkway has surely noticed the rainbow underpass. It’s hard to miss. It’s a lone burst of colour, punctuating the greige northbound stretch of roadside, just south of the Lawrence Avenue exit. Did you ever wonder how it got there – or where it leads? I really hope they do. Just past the house begins a p...

Chocolate, Cheese and Mustard | Travel diary of a local tourist

Travel diary of a local tourist. One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things. Henry Miller. Chocolate, Cheese and Mustard. November 25, 2013. I’m a big fan of food (in case my previous posts haven’t already suggested this.) And I’ve already covered off my patronage of local farmers markets. But there are a few food products made locally, of which I am a big fan (and an enthusiastic consumer.) These are a few of my favourite things :. Kozlik’s Mustard at St. Lawrence Market. But Ama...

Write in Amazement: Magpie Tales: Saying Goodbye
http://writeinamazement.blogspot.com/2010/08/magpie-tales-saying-goodbye.html
Friday, August 27, 2010. Magpie Tales: Saying Goodbye. In the foyer, her hands encompassed the walnut ball that marked the beginning of a journey upstairs. Holding it as if she held a mystical gazing ball that would foretell her future, she closed her eyes and traced her fingers over the hash marks left by a hurried craftsman generations ago. The kitchen loomed before her an open wound with yawning cupboards waiting to be filled and the fireplace gaping wide-eyed and cold across the room. She stood i...

Tuesday, March 2, 2010. My Magpie Tales - Building home - 02/03/2010. This post is my entry for the weekly photo prompt writing for. They knew then they are going to be back inside the tent tomorrow. That night, when mother tucked both of them in bed, the lights switched off, Adi wondered if he should have asked Mrs.Sharma before taking the 1 kilo weight from her garden. This brings back memories of my own childhood and snitching some veggies from an elderly neighhor ladys garden. Well done. Great story&...
