Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Metempsychosis
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/things-are-starting-to-wind-down-for.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. This really touches on the idea that souls are trapped in the prison of our bodies, and after death, the soul is freed, but only to be trapped in another body. This has got me thinking, how can we, as humans, take our souls back to a feeling of freedom while we are still living? So, how can I help my soul help itself? Well, I could die. But I'm going to vote NO on that one. At least for a few years. So, is it a hike through Hyalite that helps feed our souls?
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: The Past Possesses Almost Everything

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. The Past Possesses Almost Everything. This weekend I decided to take a quick break from the required reading for my classes and read a book that a classmate lent to me,. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I read that and thought, 'Well, of course, man. We Indians have LOST EVERYTHING. We lost our native land, we lost our languages, we lost our songs and dances. We lost each other. We only know how to lose and be lost.' " (172-3). A cartoon from the book:.

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. Sunday Morning" by Wallace Stevens. When I read poems like this I know that at some point in my souls journey through the world, I already knew this beauty, and my shoulder blades start to itch. Complacencies of the peignoir, and late. Coffee and oranges in a sunny chair,. And the green freedom of a cockatoo. Upon a rug mingle to dissipate. The holy hush of ancient sacrifice. She dreams a little, and she feels the dark. Encroachment of that old catastrophe,. No mother ...
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Sonnet 73-Shakespeare

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. That time of year thou mayst in me behold. When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang. Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,. Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou seest the twilight of such day. As after sunset fadeth in the west,. Which by and by black night doth take away,. Death's second self, that seals up all in rest. In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire. That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,. View my complete profile.
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Hip hip, Hooray!
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/hip-hip-hooray.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. Hip hip, Hooray! Why, you ask? Well, I FINALLY finished. Yes, the last day blogs are due, how convenient, right? But I did finish. The thing that had me thinking was something we really didn't discuss much in class. That is the significance of the rose. Why did Lucius have to eat a rose to transform back into a human? Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Why is An Imaginary Life important to OUR lives?
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-is-imaginary-life-important-to-our.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. Why is An Imaginary Life important to OUR lives? As I read David Malouf's. An Imaginary Life,. The question I attempted to ask myself and this book is what Dr. Sexson told us to explore: Why is this important to our study of classical literature and our lives in the modern world? The story takes place at the end of the known world around the year 0. Why would we, as classical lit students, care? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: March 2009
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. I can't believe that I spaced blogging about the death of a beloved pet. Better late than never, here is the saga of Sam:. Talk about docile. As far as smart, we taught him to sit in the corner when he was bad, just like my sister and I had to do. We would say, "Go to the corner," and he would go to the same corner in our house and sit facing the corner until someone told him he could come out. Very cute. SO, why am I waiting until now to talk about my excitement?
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: We are Never Alone
http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/we-are-never-alone.html
Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. We are Never Alone. All is suffering, all is fleeting. Such a depressing thought can surely put a damper on someone’s life view. However, as a direct result of our exposure to classical tragedy, English 213 students now know that nothing in literature is depressing, even if everything in life is fleeting. Tragedy teaches us, through example, how to deal with some of the worst situations we will encounter in our short lives. Into Titus Andronicus,. Into King Lear,.
