Music Village, Greece – Aug 2012
http://jeremyrose.earshift.com/2012/09/02/music-village-workshop-greece-august-2012
Music Village, Greece – Aug 2012. September 2, 2012. Picture a 16th century village perched upon the side of a mountainous peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Every night families would flock to the town square to enjoy dinner from 11pm almost until dawn whilst taking part in traditional folk music and dancing. This is no fantasy but the scene of Agios Lavrentios and Music Village. And his ever interesting blog softspeakers here. Folk dancing in the square (a traditional piece in 9/8):. Hayden a...
Ubud Gamelan studies May 2014
http://jeremyrose.earshift.com/2014/07/06/ubud-gamelan-studies-may-2014
Ubud Gamelan studies May 2014. July 6, 2014. Doug Meyers with Balinese and Japanese dancers. I also met and studied with Australian ethnomusicologist and musician Doug Myers. Doug is an intriguing character who has been collecting field recordings of music throughout the Indonesian archipelago since the 1970s. Some of the recordings document songs that have been lost through development and loss of traditional customs. Good to see that they don’t take their jobs too seriously…. Pumping waves at Keramas.

Chiba Quartet Norway Tour Sept 2012. September 13, 2012. Frognerparken practice session – Oslo, Norway. Played some gigs in Norway last week with my Chiba Quartet. Since studying there on exchange in 2006 its been great to visit and rekindle some old relationships with friends, not to mention get a taste of the local cuisine that you can’t seem to find anywhere else – liverpostei (tinned patee) and brunost (a sweet brown cheese made from goats milk). Iron in the Blood 5 star review in the Australian! August 11, 2016. Iron in the Blood. Jeremy Rose The Earshift Orchestra. This is an extensive work of broad musical, historical and narrative scope. It’s a musical adaptation of Robert Hughes’s iconic Australian historical work The Fatal Shore The Epic of Australia’s Founding (1986), complete with narration by Philip Quast and William Zappa. The arrangement features various solos throughout, notably Rose’s soprano sax alternately floating, climbing and dr...

Combining a traditional Jewish outlook with a critical perspective on religious and political issues. August 06, 2015. We humans have always needed cures, whether they are of the body, the mind or the soul. And in our desperation we have turned to the most unlikely of sources and placebos. Every advert for a pharmaceutical drug comes with an obligatory list of rushed-through or minutely printed side effects. They are so frightening that I really do not understand why people insist on taking them. To be f...
