A puzzle of historical interest. This is a 20 piece puzzle that comes apart with one move with two pieces sliding out. I decided to make these after seeing the spherical puzzle on page 62 of the book Puzzles Old and New by Jerry Slocum and Jack Botermans. The designer of the sphere is unknown but it likely over 100 years old. The puzzle I make is the same design except it is a cube instead of a sphere. It is made of Walnut and Padauk and is a 3 inch cube.

This may be the only difficult to take apart non-orthogonal puzzle with identical pieces. Due to the difficult CNC setup and other projects I will not be making these for at least 3 years. Six identical but strangely shaped pieces. Due to the jamming problem with version 2, Bram reduced the thickness of the design and also extended the length of the arms on the bottom and top layers. This greatly reduced the jamming problem and this is the final design that will be made starting in January 2010.
Quadlock 4

Quadlock 4 is a 25 piece very difficult to take apart cube. From 1992 to 1998 these were made with 7/8 Walnut, and Mahogany square sticks. In 2011 they are being made in a smaller size with .730 Walnut and Mahogany square sticks. The new size is 2.9 x 2.9 x 2.9 (74 mm x 74 mm x 74 mm). Designed by Jerry McFarland, 1992.
Altekruse Surprise

I discovered this puzzle when experimenting with notched sticks from the 35 piece minicube puzzle. After completing the puzzle I was surprised to see it was an Altekruse type design. The short sticks were added to fill in the spaces. A small quantity were sold in 1991 and 1992. It is made from 7/8 Walnut and Mahagony square sticks. It is 3.5 x 3.5 x3.5 . Designed by Jerry McFarland, 1991.
