Japan Day 5: Mount Koya. I was up at 6am to attend my very first ever Buddhist ceremony. The room in which the ceremony took place had been beautifully decorated with hundreds of golden lanterns. A monk chanted while one by one each of us approached the altar for the offering of powdered incense. Japan Day 7: Osaka. Today I visited a temple, a shrine and a castle. Is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan and also the first ever built by the state. It was founded in 593A.D by prince Shotoku, an influential figure of Japan whose face appeared in a yen banknote until 1969.
