Monday, 18 April 2011. Mombasa sits about 100 miles south of the equator so the sun is very strong. Much stronger than I ever anticipated. Friday, 15 April 2011. My host mother, Maureen, finally had her baby last Tuesday! Little baby Taliah all curled up in her blanket. She was 2 days over due and I think my host mother was more than relieved to have her baby after 9 very long months. I think being pregnant is very difficult, but I think the heat in Mombasa makes it even more difficult. Hard at work....

Sometimes pure chance leads one into a hobby. It happened to me. In Australia in 1952, my husband bought me a second wedding anniversary present a delightful ring studded with coral and opal stones. Years later, back in England, I was most upset when a passing vehicle squashed it flat after I accidentally dropped it in the road. I suppose one of my most challenging pieces was a teapot.
