은 3가지 색을 감지하는 수용체가 모두 있지만 한가지가 약간 기능이 떨어지기 때문에 발생하며, 색맹. 은 3가지 색의 수용체중 1가지 또는 2가지가 없기 때문에 발생하는 것이다. 따라서 적색약은 적색을 감지하는 수용체가 약간 기능이 떨어지기 때문에 아래의 그림에서 녹색의 선만 보이게 된다. 반대로 녹색약은 적색선만 보이게 된다. 그러나 적색약 또는 녹색약에서 적색이나 녹색을 감지하는 원추세포의 기능이 약하다고 해서 적색이나 녹색을 전혀 못 느끼는 것은 아니다. 적색 또는 녹색 한 가지만 있을 때는 알아보지만 적색과 녹색이 함께 있을 때는 적색약인 사람은 적색을 더 진하게 칠해야 적색과 녹색을 구별할 수 있고, 녹색약인 사람은 녹색을 더 진하게 칠해야 적색과 녹색을 구별할 수 있다. 하지만 보통 적색약과 녹색약을 구별하지 않고 적녹색약이라고 부른다. 가끔 쓰던 안경을 가지고 오지 않고 안경을 맞추면 불편을 호소하는 사람들이 있는데, 이것은 기존 안경에 적응이 되서 새로운 안경이 조금 높거나 낮아 어지럽거나 잘 안 보이는데 원인이 있습니다. 또 안경원에서 검사하면서 사용한 트라이얼 렌즈를 사용했을 때와는 다르게 느껴지는데 안경으로 만들어지면 시야가 커지면서 렌즈 중심 이외의 주변부로 보게 되기 때문입니다. 시력 07 이 편한 사람, 1.0 정도는 되어야 만족하는 사람이 있고 혹은 시력 1.5 정도로 잘 보여야 만족하는 사람도 있기 때문에 쓰던 안경이 없다면 그것을 맞추기가 쉽지 않습니다. 따라서 안경을 맞출 때는 쓰던 안경에 아무 지장이 없다면 그대로 하는 것이 좋으니까 쓰던 안경을 가져오면 좋습니다. 처음 맞추는 안경 초보자는 어지러우니까 시력 0.7 정도에 맞추는 것이 일반적이지만, 원거리에서 칠판등의 글씨를 보는데만 사용한다면 처음부터 시력 1.0 정도는 되도록 교정할 필요가 있습니다.

안경도수가 높아 안경을 쓰면 이상하게 보이는 사람은 비구면 렌즈를. 안경을 선택할 때 까지는 자기얼굴에 잘 어울렸었는데 안경알을 넣고나면 이상하게 어울리지 않을 때가 있는 사람들은 초고굴절 비구면 렌즈로 하면 괜챦다. 이것은 도수가 5.00 디옵터 이상 되는 사람들이 한번 압축한 렌즈(사실 압축이라는 것은 잘 못된 표현이다. 굴절률이 1.56인 중굴절 렌즈를 의미한다)를 사용하면 눈이 작아지고 왜곡을 야기하기 때문이다. 아래 그림에서 보면 좌측의 그물망 무늬가 일반 볼록렌즈를 사용할 때는 Pin Cushion 형태로 확대되면서 왜곡을 일으키고, 오목렌즈를 사용할 때는 Barrel 형태로 축소되면서 왜곡된다. 이러한 왜곡을 개선하여 실물에 가깝게 한 설계가 비구면 렌즈이다. 따라서 아래의 그림에서 보듯이 도수가 높은 근시인 경우는 눈이 작아지면서 술통모양으로 왜곡을 일으키기 때문에 다른 사람이 보았을 때 영 폼이 나지 않는 것이다.
