Cuba
http://jhearst.typepad.com/photos/cuba/index.html
In December of 2010 I went on a one-week "humanitarian" trip with a group from PSA. It was the most concentrated and productive week in my photographic career. Then in January 2013 I took another trip with Richard Martin and members of my camera club, and it was even more productive. Here are the results. Bit of red car. I was looking for peeling paint on cars and I found some. In Cienfuegos on the way back from Trinidad to Havana. On a wall in Trinidad. A strange looking building in Trinidad. Enroute to...
Rust and Rubbish
http://jhearst.typepad.com/photos/junk_cars/index.html
If you see an animal in this image, look up the word. I didn't know what this was, but I liked the shape and colors. I took a lot of shots of details of the crane. And the end of the tank. Here's a signature tank at the Borges Ranch parking lot. Last one in Alameda. I like to do bollards. Also at the Hornet dock. Orange and blue grille. The last one I made at Good Guys. I went to the GoodGuys swap meet in Pleasanton with George and Joan Field, and found a few nice samples of rust. Part of the tractor.
New York
http://jhearst.typepad.com/photos/New_York/index.html
In late April I went to New York with my friend and cousin Ed Weil. We spent the better part of a week finding uncommon subjects to shoot. One of my favorites. In Greenwich Village. On a building in New York - I think it is some sort of public housing. Back and foot rub. I found this classic scene and couldn't resist it. Bow Bridge in the background, cherry blossoms in the foreground. In a little park. In Central Park. Jeff Fisher made me aware of one of these arches, but this is another one. We were hea...
Mexico - Oaxaca
http://jhearst.typepad.com/photos/oaxaca/index.html
Richard Martin noticed this and I grabbed it. I pumped it a little in Photoshop. A block from the hotel. Richard spotted this and I modified it a bit. Or maybe a lot. Looking up at a roof. In Mexico a motel is a place for very short stays, and there is a big portrait of Marilyn outside this facility. I think this is the reflection of the windows of a car across the sidewalk from this wall. I saw it and shot it and walked on. As Sam Abell says, "Compose and wait.". Shot while sitting at lunch.
Alsace
http://jhearst.typepad.com/photos/alsace/index.html
One of the first things I noticed in Strasbourg. We spent some time at Petite France in Strasbourg. Here's a lock. Another view of Petite France. More of Petite France. A decorative item in Strasbourg. Window and shutters copy. There were lots of Halloween preparations in Alsace while we were there in late October. We saw lots of jack-o-lanterns and so on. An example of why I think of Alsace as the Napa Valley on steroids. Church and castle Hunawihr. An homage to my friend Bob Wehrmeister.

Two Glasses of Wine Deep. Asymp; 2 Comments. Yes we are thankful that we can raise our children so they aren’t being raised in daycare but we miss feeling successful and feeling like you’re making a contribution to your family. I cant be the only one! Oh and how dare us bitch about being a stay at home mom because we have it so easy right? We sit on the couch watching Say Yes to the Dress and eating Cheetos with our feet propped up all day… WRONG. In Stay at Home Moms. Asymp; Leave a comment.
