I personally know that discussing the readings with someone else before talking about them in class helped me understand them better. It was also easier to come up with questions. I think that teachers cannot help but naturally discriminate sometimes. This does not mean that they show it, but I have had many teachers who have blantantly favored some kids or dismissed others.
