Three Months in Tanzania: Did it.

http://jimandafrica.blogspot.com/2008/10/did-it.html

Three Months in Tanzania. Status: Africa is Normal Now. Wednesday, October 22, 2008. For now, I'm in Zambia for another week. I've been traveling almost non-stop since the start of the month, and won't be done until I'm home in Michigan November 5. I'll see you all then. October 22, 2008 at 9:43 AM. I was so happy and excited to see your face. You're still in one piece. I'm so proud of you. October 22, 2008 at 10:34 AM. Today I saw gas for $2.79/gallon. Just thought you'd like to know. Love you big time!

Three Months in Tanzania: Pre-Kili

http://jimandafrica.blogspot.com/2008/10/i-dont-know-why-people-climb-mountains.html

Three Months in Tanzania. Status: Africa is Normal Now. Sunday, October 5, 2008. I don't know why people climb mountains. They are big. So big that they are symbols for big, they define big, they're metaphors for impossibility. We stay away from them, build roads around them and sometimes under them but never over them. In preparation, I've been climbing and clamoring and and hiking for the last three months, and I am as ready as I will ever be. Tomorrow morning, we're actually going to climb it....So fo...

Three Months in Tanzania: October 2008

http://jimandafrica.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Three Months in Tanzania. Status: Africa is Normal Now. Tuesday, October 28, 2008. I am sitting in an internet cafe in Ndola, Zambia. If you look at a map of Africa, there's a little piece of the Democratic Republic of Congo that hangs down and bottlenecks Zambia. Ndola is just to the left of that. In my money belt, I have nine 50 kwacha bills and some identification, little else. For the few of you who aren't up to speed on African exchange rates, they have a combined worth of about ten cents. Almost no...

August 25, 2012. Bona Fide Tropical Storm Isaac. Last year, we did get a brief visit from Maria. The next morning, we found that the awning in front of our dining hall had been picked up and heaved into our playground. Boom, no more monkey bars. I picked up the storm shutters behind my house and took a mental note that they were to be kept up in any storm threat, lest I lay there and shudder in the mist and hear them clang around again someday. And that was it for 2011. Then the big night: Nothing happens.

http://naivejim.blogspot.com/2012/12/you-senseless-ignorant-brute-beast-you.html

December 2, 2012. You senseless, ignorant, brute beast, you! Is how you title a blog about a Psalm.). I can't totally relate (yet) to having mobs of enemies chasing me down, or wetting my bed with tears, or the heart-wrenching betrayal of a good friend. To my untrained eyes and mind, lots of them seem indistinguishable, and often I read them out of duty, not the passion or curiosity I ought to read them with. Life is rough, I tell ya, so rough. How rough is it? Okay, so Asaph's no Rodney Dangerfield....

http://naivejim.blogspot.com/2013/12/tragedy.html

December 17, 2013. I wonder what happens to those people who live their entire lives without experiencing a significant tragedy. When they hug someone, do they hug like we do? When they encounter someone who has been completely wrecked by something, do they have that point of reference that some of us do, that permanent and unfixable moment when life changed? The one we dredge up and experience again, just for that split second when we know that someone else is hurting in the same way we hurt? Dont know ...

http://naivejim.blogspot.com/2013/01/dont-you-worry-bout-thing.html

January 29, 2013. Don't you worry bout a thing. Jesus tells us we shouldn't worry. He says we shouldn't worry about what we're gonna eat or drink or wear. Something about the birds not having to, so neither should we. Even before the car problem, I was starting to worry . For me, it's the transition of life and my life purpose that have been stressing me out. There's no recipe to figuring out your purpose, I don't think. Because despite all of the thought and all of the process and all of the skill-b...

August 22, 2012. Me" as a four-letter word. Christian book should give you a nice, solid gut-punch. If it doesn't, go find something else to read. I just read The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness. By Tim Keller (Dude, that's 99 cents on Amazon for the Kindle edition.) It's a short book - only 30-40 minutes to read it, but well worth it if you've got an e-reader. (Go buy it, go now.). December 15, 2012. Blogging for the End of the World. The end of the world is coming, they say. "They" being the Mayans, and everyone who believes them. Kinda makes me wonder how many people who are buying into it also think the Bible is a bunch of ancient hooey. Personally, I'm not sold on Mayan mythology, and I think I tip toward the reasonable side on the crazy spectrum. I would suggest that if you're gonna buy into their doomsday prophecy - and how does. One prep for doomsday, anyway? Okay, so if I d...

Jim & Abby Overseas | Explore the Kingdom of Cambodia with Us

Jim and Abby Overseas. Explore the Kingdom of Cambodia with Us. Fruit, fruit and more fruit. June 4, 2009. One of the best parts of living in South East Asia is the fruit. Jim and I have tried so many new fruits since living in Cambodia, and I wanted to share them with you. Sadly, you won’t be able to taste them from where you sit. This first one is called Rambutan, but Jim nick-named it “hair eyeball fruit.” It’s in season right now and we eat it a lot. This one is similar and called Logan. The next one...

And One More Makes Five

And One More Makes Five. How will Jim, Alessia, Ethan, Lucia, and Zero, handle a new addition to the family? Friday, October 10, 2014. Felt Mansion and Saugatuck Dunes. Way back in August Lucia, Francesca, and I went out to the Felt Mansion and Saugatuck Dunes to walk around. The Felt Mansion used to be a private estate in the late 1920/1930's, but now it is owned by the city- so the grounds are open to the public. I had never been out there before- it is beautiful! Lovely Lucia near the water garden.

Jim and Alice

Sunday, November 1, 2009. Alice and I spent the afternoon with my dad driving through the Tenn. countryside. I've attached some pictures we took of the Fall foliage. This country is so beautiful this time of year of course when we talked to some of the locals they said. "You should have been here last week it was a lot prettier". Labels: Tenn. Autumn. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. We finally started a blog site. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). At the Pier 2006 Santa Cruz, CA. Madison, Alabama, United States.

Jim and Alison's World Travels. In 2005, we both decided to pack up work and take a year out and go travelling. We are now both back in the UK, so future updates are as a result of holidays.
