Thearys - gary and mary. Our last 2 nights in the keys further south - Sunshine Key near Bahia Honda SP. For our last 2 nights in the keys, we headed further south to Sunshine Key. It was hot and muggy our first day; we spent the morning at Bahia Honda and saw dozens of rays and sharks in the water - they were huge! We also stopped in to visit friends from the summer in Maine, Donny and Pat, and Bob and Donna, who are wintering at Sugarloaf KOA. On Big Pine Key. We stopped at Blue Hole. Were everywhere; ...

Thearys - gary and mary. Fiesta Key and Jolly Roger. Upon leaving the timeshare in Orlando, we were reserved in Thousand Trails Orlando (Clermont) where we will be spending quite a bit of time this winter. Because the half price discounts offered via Passport America are not accepted after November in most parks in the keys, we realized we should make a trip down there while the discount is good. So off we went for 9 nights in the keys. During our stay at Jolly Roger, we donated blood at Dolphin Research...

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-11-23 Goodbye to the Everglades, and a visit to Big Cypress National Refuge. Leaving Everglades National Park, we stopped at the Royal Palm Visitor Center and walked the short but amazing Anhinga Trail. We stopped in here years ago when passing through on a trip to Key West - and I remain convinced.if you have time for nothing more than a quick stop in the everglades, this is the place to stop! The Anhinga bird seems plentiful in south Florida. Plus we were heading to our ov...

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-05-20 Oli's Trolley Tour of Bar Harbor and Acadia. Gary and I were witnesses at a wedding here at the KOA, and the happy couple was so very nice to give us a gift certificate to Galen's, an excellent restaurant in Bar Harbor. What a nice treat! We had a great early lunch - fantastic crab cakes for me and a hamburger (one of the best he's ever had) for Gary. Then we caught the afternoon tour on Oli's Trolley. And the Wild Gardens of Acadia. Cadillac Mountain on a cloudy day.

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-07-30 Episode 3 - Jordan Pond and South Bubble - finally a hike for my day off. Ran into one young couple trying to go DOWN the face of south bubble with their dog! Poor pup had all brakes on.he clearly knew this wasn't a good idea.come on folks, go around the back way where the walking is easy and there are no rungs. About a mile of cedar planks up the west side of Jordan Pond. A half mile of rock pathway. Around the north end, trail changes to packed gravel. At the hatcher...

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-07-02 Gorham Mountain and the Bowl, sizing up the Beehive. Gorham Mountain stands overlooking Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Point, providing broad views of the coast and a great place for whale-watching. The weather was warm and dry - this made for much more crowded conditions here than last time I visited. Gorham Trail. That made me think "I can do this"; however, I am still pondering it and will definitely start with some easier ladder trails. A bit more up. Do you s...

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-04 Sea Camp at Cumberland Island. There is camping on Cumberland Island at Sea Camp. Would've been a long cold night without even a pillow. Boardwalk from the beach to Sea Camp. Welcome to the magical forest. Camp site at Sea Camp has table, firepit, and what I believe is a racoon/squirrel box? Finishing our long day of walking. Resting in the rocking chairs at Sea Camp Ranger Station. Looking down the beach 1/2 mile to the ferry dock at Dungeness. Posted by the.arys. Travel...

Thearys - gary and mary. 2014-11-22 Nine Mile Pond Canoe Trail - paddling is the "must-do" in the everglades. Our last day in the everglades, we were very lucky to go out on the free ranger-lead canoe trip at Nine Mile Pond. The waiting vultures - the ranger warned us all to move our vehicles out of the Nine Mile Pond parking lot onto the main road - apparently the vultures will have a hayday stripping all the rubber from your windows, but they leave the cars on the roadway alone. Getting ready to launch.
