Long Slow Distance: September 2010

http://jimbergsblog.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 12, 2010. I'm not a big celebrity hound, but I do appreciate a few traditional California events, such as the Movie Premier. This week, the independent film Expecting Mary. Premiered in Palm Springs. Produced locally by Kim Waltrip and Jim Casey, the movie tells the story of a teen-aged pregnant runaway who finds an unlikely family in a trailer park in New Mexico. It's totally heartwarming, and not in a syrupy kind of way. Linda Gray. The best thing about seeing a premier isn't proximit...

Long Slow Distance: February 2010

http://jimbergsblog.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 20, 2010. A House and Its Head. My sister and I said the same thing when I finally received an offer on my house, which has been for sale since I left Duluth in July 2007. I truly can't think of the last time I used that phrase. I don't want to jinx it! She said, in hushed tones. After all, she's not really "tenured" until next fall when she comes back for her fifth year. I think she told her dad. In the back yard, but I wouldn't be surprised if my agent did. Since it's nearly done, an...

Long Slow Distance: January 2010

http://jimbergsblog.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 31, 2010. It's Like This Then, Is It? This is how I write. Sit at computer for about five minutes. Type some stuff. Check the mail- outside at the mailbox. Mess around on Facebook and Twitter. Look again at what I've written. Have a drink of water. Write a sentence. Erase it. Re-write the sentence I just erased. Walk out to courtyard. Sit on deck chair. Fall asleep. Wake up and repeat many of the steps above in any order. Left for you by. Labels: Dead Poets Society. Climb up the Amazon&#4...

Long Slow Distance: Appreciating Books

http://jimbergsblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/appreciating-books.html

Sunday, August 22, 2010. Sometimes reading a book is like spending a long sunny Sunday afternoon with an old friend, catching up and talking about Big Issues. When you come across that kind of book, especially when it's written by an old friend, you don't write a review. Of it, you write an appreciation. Buy from Beacon Press. I looked forward to reading Amie Klepnauer Miller's. She Looks Just Like You: A Memoir of (Nonbiological Lesbian) Motherhood. Jeff-and-Lloyd trilogy, The Men from the Boys. Klempna...

Professor Wagstaff | Professing Ideas On Nearly Everything

March 29, 2018. Posted by Jim Berkin in Baseball. 8217;tis Spring, and this old fart’s thoughts turn to… baseball. Opening day is finally here, there’s a slate of games on the dish, although they’re saving the Yankees/Bluejays matchup for a Friday night on MLB instead of today. Meh. After pleasantly surprising me last year and achieving the amazing run that brought them to within 1 game of making the World Series for the first time since 2009, the Yankees seem poised for a similar run this year. Making p...
