a wayfaring engineer: July 2008
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Tuesday, 29 July 2008. Who's a lucky boy? Ja ha That'd be me. I recently had a visitor drop in for a couple of weeks. My girlfriend, Belle, visited me in Göteborg. It was time to share my knowledge of Swedish customs (lunch at 11:30am), language (tjena! And food (inlagd sill). Of course it was a lot of fun showing off the city I'd been living in for the past four months, so far away from her and Melbourne. Although the weather isn't always this coo...

a wayfaring engineer: summer parties
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2008/08/summer-parties.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Monday, 25 August 2008. And for those readers who have no idea what a whole new kettle of fish is. It's an Australian expression meaning it's a different scenario. Where does it come from? I don't know, and don't care. Just accept and continue. Now what can I do you for? Buggered if I know. Usually it's just a lot of booze and loud music. What would you do to make a party seem like an Aussie party to mixed group of Europeans? Have a footy on hand.

a wayfaring engineer: May 2007
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Friday, 11 May 2007. Despite not being overseas, I emulated an overseas trip this week by eating at not one, not two, but three Spanish restaurants. It turned out I was staying in the "Spanish Quarter" of Sydney. All three of these restaurants were within 50 metres of my hotel! If I was staying longer, I believe there were more just around the corner too. Monday night: Don Quixote. A huge meal! It was really nice. I had to consume two : ). Hence th...

a wayfaring engineer: November 2007
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Monday, 19 November 2007. Here's a wrap up of my visit to Phnom Penh. It's a small city - around 1 million people. There aren't any tall buildings, I'd say the tallest is around 6 stories. The riverfront area is well presented with plenty of restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend the Foreign Correspondent's Club. Here's a view from where I was working (4 stories up, south end of town). Thursday, 15 November 2007. As the lake dries up and dr...

a wayfaring engineer: stockholm revisited
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2008/08/stockholm-revisited.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Tuesday, 19 August 2008. On her last weekend in Sweden, I took Belle to glamorous Stockholm. It was a scorcher of a weekend. No rain in sight - and this time, we were wondering where the air conditioners were. Since I'd been to Stockholm before, this trip involved a mixture of what I thought the best sights were when I visited last time. Plus some I missed out on, plus some Belle thought sounded good. Stockholm is deserted on Sunday mornings. A...

a wayfaring engineer: April 2009
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Thursday, 23 April 2009. Hanoi, take #2. Wow, it's been a while since writing about my travels. When I came back from Europe I rushed back into life back in Melbourne. Alas, I haven't made time even to review the photos from the last two weeks of September. My resolution today is to get around to it - I'm it would only take an hour or so each night. I hope! So why now the resumption in writing? We wandered out towards Hồ Chí Minh's mausoleum to see...

a wayfaring engineer: soaking in oslo
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2008/08/soaking-in-oslo.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Monday, 11 August 2008. Summer time is a time for most Scandinavians to take a vacation. Most. but not all. Construction workers kick into overdrive over summer, building new roads, tram tracks, and unfortunately for us, performing train track maintenance on the route from Göteborg to Oslo. After an increasingly confused 10 to 15 minutes at Göteborg Central. Wondering where in the hell train platform 54 is? After lunch we headed out to explore Oslo...

a wayfaring engineer: March 2007
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Thursday, 29 March 2007. A walk in the park. This morning I've got a teleconference at 11, so I don't have to get to work until then. Hence the tourist part of my brain kicked in and said "go for a walk". Actually after being stuck inside an exchange for the past 3 days, pretty much all of my brain said go for a walk. So I did. Voi Phuc Temple is a façade! Literally. Here it is from the front:. Of the concrete variety. Inside the zoo, the vast majo...

a wayfaring engineer: stockholm in a weekend
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2008/04/stockholm-in-weekend.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Wednesday, 16 April 2008. Stockholm in a weekend. Not last weekend, but the weekend before, I went and visited Stockholm. Sweden's largest city and capital. From my Australian perspective it's funny that the largest city is the capital - seems like it's getting everything its own way. Makes you realise Canberra is an anomaly. But we already knew that right? It shouldn't be a cause for excitement, but hell, I was anyway: the Arlanda Express. Have be...

a wayfaring engineer: to the northern hemisphere
http://wayfaring-pj.blogspot.com/2007/03/to-northern-hemisphere.html
A rambling collage of photos and memories of my travels. Tuesday, 27 March 2007. To the northern hemisphere. The first 24 years of my life have taken me to all parts of main land Australia, both main islands of New Zealand, and to Bali in Indonesia. So before this trip I'd been as far west as Perth, as far South as Wilsons Prom, as far north as Bali, and as far east as Auckland. Now I'm off to service the needs of the world's telco's! The protocol for driving around this town goes something like this:.
