Monday, May 12, 2014. 2014 Hive 6 (new nuc 5/10/14). New nuc split from 2014 Hive 3 on 5/10/14. Split from 2014 package. None right now, from Italian package queen. 5/25/14: Spotted newly emerged queen, who is still a bit small. No eggs yet, perhaps she is taking mating flights. Rearranged deep frames to encourage larger brood nest. They are building up a supply of nectar, not at risk of starvation. 8/2/14: So many bees! 8/15/14: Combine went fine, bees filling both deeps. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. 7/23/13: Queens not laying. Inspected 2 hives and a nuc today and found no eggs. This was after a neighbor (Linda) stated brood was spotty in her main hive and her nuc had no eggs, though a queen should have hatched and mated by now (same timeline as the main hive). I spotted the queen in her nuc and confirmed no eggs on 7/23/13. Saw a queen in my nuc and no eggs. What do these ladies know? Preparing for a dearth? Thursday, April 17, 2014. 2014 Hive 5 (new package). New 3lb package 2014. Package from Waldo Apiaries. 2014 Italian (Buckeye Belle were not produced in time). I picked up this package on April 16, 2014 in Ashley, OH, near Columbus, OH. Installed by me on 4/16/14 in the afternoon, 47 degrees and sunny. Pail feeder placed on top. 4/21/14: Queen had been released and eggs spotted. Feeder nearly empty. 5/19/14: Eggs spotted, no signs of swarming, ok on space. Thursday, July 10, 2014. Extracting Honey - Spring 2014. I pulled whole supers of mostly capped honey off of hives 2, 3, 4, and 5. D, G, and I extracted it on July 5. They boys are 7 now and were quite a big help, G uncapping on his own, D spinning the extractor, removing and stacking empty frames on his own. And it is tasty. My collection is housed in my garage and covers three walls and a section of the roof. I have cans from all around the world but the bulk of my collection is from New Zealand and Australia.
