For lunch, she can’t help it, can’t stop wiping down. The counter, brushing crumbs from the bottoms. Of ketchup bottles, cleaning the chunky rim. Around the cap with a napkin, tipping big. Old habits die hard. Old waitresses. Die harder, laid out in their cheap cardboard coffins. In their lacy blue varicose veins, arches fallen.
