Why are the sides not continuing to meet to negotiate a settlement that neither is extatic about but both can accept?

Jim and Pat have three children who all graduated from Calvin College. Emily (36) is married to Michael Schmidt and they currently live in Chennai, India, with their two children. Evan (32) is married to Hope and works at Aperitivo in the Downtown Market. Elliot (29) works as the Marketing Director at Samaritas of Grand Rapids. Jim and Pat attend First Christian Reformed Church at Bates and Henry where they have both served in a variety of leadership roles.
