When a Cat Babbles...: Obligation to Blogging + Name Change
http://theorycat.blogspot.com/2006/03/obligation-to-blogging-name-change.html
When a Cat Babbles. Thursday, March 23, 2006. Obligation to Blogging Name Change. I still want something about cats- because err. cats are cool. How about "catlyspeaking"? Did anyone take that name already? I feel it's so common. Or perhaps, "catlymatters". I like them both. It does not have any reference to 'theory', but it contains the word 'cat'. Cool! I think the worst part is I feel ennui about both =p. Can I be a graphics designer for a few weeks? Posted by Kanat @ 11:27 AM. Comments: Post a Comment.

When a Cat Babbles...: Teaching Myself a "Framework for Randomized Algorithms"
http://theorycat.blogspot.com/2006/03/teaching-myself-framework-for.html
When a Cat Babbles. Friday, March 31, 2006. Teaching Myself a "Framework for Randomized Algorithms". Here is my blog for educational purposes. I will blog an entry on a book chapter I am reading. The Computational Geometry book by de Berg et al. Talks about a (plain-old) framework for randomized (geometry) algorithms; I hope reading it will give me a new perspective. This can be thought of as location step. Let now introduce the notion of a configuration space. For each $ Delta in Pi$, $D( Delta)$ is wha...

When a Cat Babbles. Sunday, April 23, 2006. A Real Problem: Where did my motivation go? Can I ever going to have my motivation again? I feel that I need to do more things than I have listed, because meeting of the minds is also real soon. It's coming close to the end of my undergrad. career. Why is it so hard to make it end nicely? I guess I feel daunted by the amount of things I need to get done in 2 weeks and the level of commitment I need in order to get them done. Bleh. Friday, April 14, 2006. In my ...

When a Cat Babbles...: An Analyisis Framework (Contd.)

When a Cat Babbles. Sunday, April 02, 2006. An Analyisis Framework (Contd.). In my previous post, I was trying to understand the amount of structural change as each new object is inserted to the system. Here we try to accomplish a more involved task. Let's ask how many conflicts occur throughout the life of our algorithm. Formally, this is computing the expression $ sum { Delta} K( Delta) $, where $ Delta$ runs over all configurations ever appear. Sum {r=1} n d 2( frac{n-r}{r})( frac{E[ T(X r) ]}{r})`.

When a Cat Babbles...: Practical Theory: Hard to Bear Fruit
http://theorycat.blogspot.com/2006/04/practical-theory-hard-to-bear-fruit.html
When a Cat Babbles. Friday, April 14, 2006. Practical Theory: Hard to Bear Fruit. Surely, I am not thinking clearly. But, in my endless trying-to-avoid-work-at-all-cost cycle, I start to wonder how possible it is to do theory that bears practical fruits! Okay, put yourself in a pessimist's shoe. Now think how many smart people are working on these useful problems? Both reasons are depressing. Posted by Kanat @ 1:19 AM. Have you read Hardy's book: "mathematician's apology"? When a Cat Babbles...: People and Ideas in Theoretical Computer Science
http://theorycat.blogspot.com/2006/03/people-and-ideas-in-theoretical.html
When a Cat Babbles. Friday, March 31, 2006. People and Ideas in Theoretical Computer Science. Karp mentions many hard decisions in his career plan and the three principles he lived by:. Understand what you are good at and what you like to do, and choose accordingly. In the words of Socrates, "Know thyself.". To find exciting problems, look at the interfaces between disciplines. Follow the Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared! Then disregard it and pick material you like. Figure out your notation and terminology ...

When a Cat Babbles...: The Genesis
http://theorycat.blogspot.com/2006/03/genesis.html
When a Cat Babbles. Thursday, March 23, 2006. With 10 blogs flourished among close friends in the past year, blogging seems to a hot trend - and eseentially a "must" for me. Above the reason of fashion, I created this blog mainly for my own record; a blog is one place I can keep and organize my thought, my wish list, and my TODO list! But, my dearest blog, considering my busy schedule (and my laziness), I do not know when I will visit you again. Babbling is fun. Posted by Kanat @ 1:07 AM.
