The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me: July in May
http://findingfloridaatfifty.blogspot.com/2015/05/july-in-may.html
The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. May 15, 2015. The weather has been humid and a little hot, more like June or July than May, here in NE Florida…I've taken to getting up before 6 am to get to the beach just before sunrise, to beat the heat…and the other shell seekers. I've also spent three hours on the beach the past couple visits…amazing how time flies when you're having fun…. 8230;I also find a few scallops and several slippersnails…. The beaches o...

The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. April 27, 2014. A Lucky Ducky Lifer. Our rambling RV'er friends returned to their favorite campground recently, and after a pleasant lunch, hubby headed off to work while I hung out awhile…the three of us enjoyed some relaxation at the beach, needless to say…. While lounging like lazy lizards, we noticed a dark duck shape come bopping along from the north. Meanwhile, back at the ranch (or cottage)…. I'm tickled that ...

The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. August 22, 2015. This is definitely a favorite sunrise shot so far . . ! I made it to the beach on Tues., after about 10 days without any beach therapy . . . the sunrise alone was well worth the early rise. But I'm happy that the sunrise time is becoming later in the day! This was a small, but exciting find . . . just shy of 2 inches long, a whole, channeled whelk . . . It cleaned up easily. August 15, 2015. Who does...

The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me: Seeing Red
http://findingfloridaatfifty.blogspot.com/2015/07/seeing-red.html
The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. July 17, 2015. It wasn't my best couple hours of beach therapy this morning, but nice all the same, and full of reds . . . Like the sunrise . . . in an otherwise dark horizon . . . it didn't seem this sinister in real life! I found another calico scallop with an acorn barnacle attached . . . The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. July 24, 2015. Looks like I'm only getting beach therapy one day this week . . . Another red sunrise on Tuesday . . . Some shells, esp. some bivalves, are hard to ID but I'm pretty sure this is a (not-so)-White Atlantic Semele. It just happens to have some discoloration due to being buried. This tiny almost-whole gastropod shell is a thick-lipped drill. Their max. size is 1.5 in. July 17, 2015. July 10, 2015. 8230;On...

The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. May 29, 2015. Blue for the Blues. 8230;On the beach front, I've been continuing my early morning visits to the beach, in time to see the sunrise, 3 times a week lately…. 8230;I was recently thrilled to find this hermit crab, heading into the surf…it appears to be toting a tatty shark's eye shell, with an anemone on the back of it! May 23, 2015. After strolling near the surf, I made my way up to the high tide line onc...

The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. June 26, 2015. A Changing Sunrise and Other Treasures. The pre-sunrise skyline was awe-inspiring, as usual . . . I actually didn't find hardly anything on my way down the beach along the water's edge,. But on my way back, I walked the high tide line and found this lightning venus shell (a first! I've found several favored tellin shells, but not like this beige-ringed one. And I almost didn't see it . . . Puttin' on t...

As you can see, this post is all about the Great Egret, in all its snow-white glory! Preening even in the nursery…Looks like a wedding gown. 8230;Appears to be several expectant parents…. These nestlings appear to be checking themselves over…"Long neck, check! Long legs, check! This was the best shot I got of the great egret babes. Yep, we're okay…so, Mum! May 21, 2014. The Sand , The Sea . . . and Me. A salty journal of sunrises, seashells, and shorebirds. March 27, 2014. Who Let the Birds Out? Spring has definitely sprung in the kingdom of feathered frolickers…I barely posted about my long over-due ID of an Eastern bluebird, (seen on a power line, during a walk) when lo and behold, I looked out the window at the feeder pole and there sat a bluebird! The following pictures were taken on two different days during a very short period of time. Update: A fellow birder, Lau...
