Socio-computational systems, virtual environments, learning contexts, and the Cobalt Project. Thursday, December 11, 2008. Collaborative CAD in Cobalt! CAD environment sets Cobalt apart from other virtual world technologies in a very significant way. Cobalt seems to be getting a more and more impressive feature list lately. Congratulations to the community! I've had a keen eye on this development for a while, and things seem to be accelerating. Saturday, December 27, 2008 3:42:00 PM.
Julian Lombardi's Blog: Another Digital Rainout
http://jlombardi.blogspot.com/2008/04/another-digital-rainout.html
Socio-computational systems, virtual environments, learning contexts, and the Cobalt Project. Friday, April 25, 2008. Today, for the second time in as many weeks, Second Life. Became unavailable for the same reasons that 3rd party large-scale server-based architectures should not be relied on to support mission-critical virtual worlds in any serious way. The outage happened, once again, just at the time that Aaron Walsh of the Media Grid Immersive Education Initiative. Was trying to host a Second Life.

Socio-computational systems, virtual environments, learning contexts, and the Cobalt Project. Sunday, October 19, 2008. Another test of the new KMZ importer from Aik-Siong Koh. Note that the textures are mapping nicely onto the relatively complex model! Soon we will be able to import lots of content from Google's 3D Warehouse into Cobalt. That will be nice. Laquo; Twofer: Polygamy Post and Sneak Preview of Ideas Matter. Cluster: Defending Liberty on Multiple Fronts ». September 07, 2010. Tea Party: Starfish or Spider? I offer my answer in this piece. The functional reasons are compelling: You don’t want your organization to dissolve because your leadership gets sandbagged, or because your information system is way too top down. But function and form is just one reason the Tea Party should never formalize. . 0160;Try lobbying the Tea Party. . But the plurali...
Max Borders: Writing from atop the Washington Monument

Laquo; Max Borders - Winter Edition. March 16, 2011. Writing from atop the Washington Monument. What’s happening in Japan right now is heart wrenching. There will be families who will never fully recover. Can you imagine what it must be like to be separated from a loved one? One day goes by. Then two. Hope dwindles. Indeed, as I quibbled with my editor about something minor in that piece, I realized I had been writing about Japan, earthquakes and nuclear power from atop the Washington Monument. When a cr...
Croq... Croq... Croquet: Wisconsin Week Wun
http://croq.blogspot.com/2005/05/wisconsin-week-wun.html
Croq Croq. Croquet. Saturday, May 14, 2005. I just finished the first week at my new job as a Croquet hacker at the University of Wisconsin. What is Croquet, you ask? I'm glad you did. You might like to start with the project website. Although non-techie friend have told me that they find it incomprehensible. My boss. Has been working on a redesign, which will hopefully be friendly to both end-users and hackers. Overhead is not the problem: approximately 95% of the time is spent in glDrawElements(). ...

Friday, October 22, 2004. I managed to force Scott's Gallery Builder into the Jasmine image. It's a little bit crippled by my pattented "hack off any code that generates an error" approach, but it is still functional. Yay! Posted by tao at 5:08 PM. Posted by tao at 1:32 PM. Thursday, October 21, 2004. Looks like I was asking the wrong question last week when I asked about running Jasmine under the 3.7 VM. As everyone said, that is no problem, the Jasmine image runs just fine with the 3.7 VM&#...Failing t...

Laquo; LInks, Traces, Bits and Bytes. Max Borders - Up to No Good in November, December ». November 18, 2010. Ariely and Norton: Never Mind the Gap. Everyone knows the social sciences are fuzzy. Economists, political scientists and anthropologists bring their moralistic baggage into the ivory tower as soon as they decide what to study and what not to. There’s no avoiding social science’s value-ladenness. We recently asked a representative sample of more than 5,000 Americans (young and old, men and women,...
