Saturday, November 28, 2009. Chickens in Tree Branches. I live now in a place where chickens spend their time in tree branches,. Where Thanksgiving is shared with 60 people, none of whom are related,. Where 24 gringos play, fight, cook, dream, dance, and attempt to love together,. Where children come broken,. Where people are both the glue and the pieces of a misshaped embodiment of God's kingdom,. Where rats are just as likely to show up in the kitchen as fruits and veggies are,. Where children dancing,...

A Year As A Jesuit Volunteer. It has been a while since I wrote you say? Ok so that is Bon Iver, but still…you should listen to it. Back in September I had a letter to the editor published. In the Seattle Times newspaper about a proposal floated by a Seattle City Councilmember to make “aggressive panhandling” a civil infraction. Real Change assembled a coalition of over 20 organization and campaigned against the passage of the ordinance. A week before the council vote it looked certain to pass with a...

live through love: Hey Honduras, could you open your borders please?
http://francescapennino.blogspot.com/2009/09/hey-honduras-could-you-open-your.html
Saturday, September 26, 2009. Hey Honduras, could you open your borders please? There's a story and it goes like this:. Simon, a fisherman is cleaning his nets after a day of fishing when Jesus approaches him and tells him to cast his nets once more. He does as he is told, and catches more fish than he can bring to shore. Jesus then asks Simon and his companions to follow him, and 'they left everything and followed him.'". Ice cream, everyday. What about all the people and places that we leave behind?

Saturday, October 10, 2009. Scorpion on ma shoulder! Just for the record, I will not be updating my blog every week. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds or time for that, haha. I hope all is going well for you out there. Life here in Honduras is more than amazing. I have had my ups and downs in the past week and a half, but grace has been so present throughout it all. Highlights from the past week:. I counted 19 yellow, blue, and white jellyfish during a 10 minute walk on the beach yesterday. We (the ...

A Year As A Jesuit Volunteer. So I’m a wonk. The other day I was going on to my co-worker about the importance of the result in PA-12 special election for this November. (ie voter enthusiasm, the overblown-ness of the Tea Part movement, etc) When I had finished with my piece he turned to me an simply said, “Your such a wonk aren’t you? 8221; Thinking to myself I decided that, based on numerous reasons, including the fact that I even follow elections in the middle of May, in fact, yes I was. At least ten ...

A Year As A Jesuit Volunteer. It’s a new year and time for goal setting. I’m not entirely sure what New Years Resolutions are suppose to mean besides over crowed gyms and a bane to the tobacco industry, but here are some numbers I found from a study at the prestigious University of Scranton on a non-credible website. I mostly like the blinking candy cane with the bow tie.). The following shows how many of these resolutions are maintained as time goes on:. 8211; past the first week: 75%. Above all, the mo...

A Year As A Jesuit Volunteer. STEVE RINGMAN / THE SEATTLE TIMES. Update: My letter was printed in the Sunday edition, September 20th, of the Seattle Times. I am happy to report that I had my first published piece today. I know what you’re thinking, and no it’s not my eagerly anticipated memoir. It is a lowly letter to the editor in the Seattle Times, but it is a start. The Seattle Times editorial board has fully endorsed his proposal. The editorial can be found here. For some reason the direct link doesn...
