Saunders Excellent Adventures: May 2014
http://saundersexcellentadventures.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Real adventure lifts your heart, opens your mind, and makes you catch your breath.". Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Jon and Jake made sure we could put. Our flag out for Memorial Day. I love to fly the flag! But I think it's important on Memorial Day. I am so thankful for all those who have given their lives to preserve our freedom. This is a solemn day of remembrance. To those who gave their lives. To those who gave years of service and still live with the memories of their service. This is the cutest boy.

The Everyday Reader: June 2009
http://theeverydayreader.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 18, 2009. From a billboard my mother drove past many times during my childhood. I don't really want this cluttering up my memory, but there it is. Why didn't I look at something else on the car ride home? I wish I could have, but there were these big words, and I had to read them every time. Another thing I don't pass up is free books and under the table was a box of them. I came home with three: Travels with Charley. By John Steinbeck, The Call of the Wild. Ed Charles W. Jones. Next shelt...

Under The Green Hat: 02.13
http://underthegreenhat.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Under The Green Hat. Feb 4, 2013. The following narrative describes our experience with Dr. Krimm:. Ryan stretched his arm upward and pointed his tiny finger at the object hanging overhead. "Mommy does that one," he told me. I rose from the chair and walked over to the table to have a closer look. A wooden cutout of the sun was suspended from the ceiling by a string connected to a spindle. The toy begged to be wound up. "Did Mommy spin this for you last time? Have you been here before, Ryan? Ryan did not...

The Everyday Reader: Laugh with P.G. Wodehouse
http://theeverydayreader.blogspot.com/2009/02/laugh-with-pg-wodehouse.html
Thursday, February 19, 2009. Laugh with P.G. Wodehouse. My son spends too much time on the computer. He laughs and smiles and gazes fondly at the screen. This makes me uneasy. Like most things that he finds fun, I'm wary of it. Is there some danger to this, some sign that society is going awry? Shouldn't he be interacting with people, maybe talking with someone- his mother, for example- and not some machine? I peek onto the screen to see what is so attractive:. Hahaha thats sooo funny. A dinner-jacket is...

The Everyday Reader: Are you a Greek or a Roman?
http://theeverydayreader.blogspot.com/2009/02/are-you-greek-or-roman.html
Saturday, February 28, 2009. Are you a Greek or a Roman? To Livy's History of Early Rome. He lists the Roman virtues as fair-dealing, integrity, the fear of God, political competence and devoted patriotism. Regarding political competence, he contrasts the Romans to the Greeks who he says "thought of everything but accomplished nothing." I've read the first three out of five books of Livy's history, and so far the Romans have had kings, dictators, decemvirs. March 6, 2009 at 9:16 PM. Books read in 2010.

The Everyday Reader: To Read or Not to Read
http://theeverydayreader.blogspot.com/2009/06/book-caught-my-eye-at-library-recently.html
Tuesday, June 2, 2009. To Read or Not to Read. A book caught my eye at the library recently:. How to Talk about Books You Haven't Read. By Pierre Bayard. The spine is bright yellow, the word "haven't" is in red, and it got my attention in the same way that. Caught my attention in a bookstore in Berkeley a few weeks ago. I would probably pick up a book with the title. Cooking with Trans Fats. With the same mixture of horror and fascination. How does the author justify his position? That had been written u...
